You don't think Xavier will be just as decorated as any LSU athlete by the time he is finished with track? He will probably lead LSU to the national championship this year & will win numerous individual championships. He will win Olympic GOLD before he's done & will be in the track HOF. What else can he do in his sport to be considered one of LSU's best; he already broken 4 LSU records as a freshman & 2 NCAA freshman records. Michael Johnson (track) is considered one of the all-time best athletes & Xavier is better than he was at the same age. The kid came run 100m to 400m at world-class times. Not many people alive can do that. I think Xavier is one of the all-time underappreciated athletes in LSU's history. If he sets a record in track, some of you will say be he can't catch. It ain't easy being a 2 sport athlete.
PURE ATHLETES ARE NOT FROM SPORTS WHERE ALL YOU DO IS PRACTICE PRACTICE AND PRACTICE, it takes no talent to run far distance, just will power. It takes no PURE ATHLETE TO BE ABLE TO DO FLIPS ONLY PRACTICE!
By your logic, anyone can flip with practice huh? That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard!!!:dis:
Anyone can hit a curveball, all it takes is practice. Anyone can run a pass route, all it takes is practice. Hell anyone not named Shaq can make a free throw, all it takes is practice. etc. etc. etc. So by your definition, there is no such thing as an athlete. You are officially nominated for the award of dumbest poster on this board.
I'm sorry for the complicated message i was trying to convey. An athlete is someone with talent and practice. A "LONG DISTANCE" Runner takes more practice then talent. A Sprinter can take a lot of sports by storm, that is if he is fast enough. A gymnast is all about TRAINING not talent. Of course they are spectacular at what they do. But calling a womens gymnast one of the best athletes in LSU history is absurd! Who ever said that I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul!
You, for some reason or another, are missing the very simple point I was making. Every athlete, regardless of the sport, is successful and talented because of hard work and training. Nobody wakes up one morning throws on some clothes and win the Boston Marathon the first time they run farther than 50ft. Just like nobody eats breakfast and decides to rush for 150 yds with 2 TDs after never TRAINING in football. Thats what makes athletes so special. It's the hard work, dedication, sacrifice, and discipline the average human being isn't willing to put forth. Of course some natural ability is needed, but it takes PRACTICE and TRAINING to be successful. That's why the football team goes through spring TRAINING and fall PRACTICE.
I got to go w/Chris Jackson. The guy had an F'n disease and still dominated EVERYONE. Get a F'n clue.
For one, he could actually do those things you listed, which are imagined future accolades. Look, XC may be a friggin' LSU legend in a few years. But right now he's not yet the best trackster in LSU history and isn't even a starter in football. I have high hopes for young Carter. He may end up an All-American in both sports and find a spot on "best athlete" list, but he has to pay the customary dues first and earn those honors. I can't understand trying to rank a freshman player's imagined potential with the actual accomplishments of Tiger athletes that played out their careers here.
I will take any one of the gymnasts or cross country people over you in any kind of physical test. Ten bucks says April Burkholder would smoke you in the 100 meters.
