Gonna throw out a couple of new names here... Offense: Terrance Magee. He has shown a ton of promise in very limited time. Due to his switch to WR last year and back to RB this year, I think he'll be extremely versatile, and Cam tends to favor those versatile backs. If he can just get the reps (and he may, depending on the outcome of the Hill situation & that of Blue's health), I think he'll cement his place as a key player in our offense. Defense: Deion Jones. 45 was all over the field every time he got on it last year. If he wasn't making the tackle, he was right there. Kid has a lot of hustle, which is crucial to his position. Early in the season last year, I remember seeing a couple of plays where I said to myself, "Damn! Who is 45?" He has the look of a hungry football player.
From an outside perspective. Jarvis showed up at of nowhere—at least that's how I saw it—when Bama and LSU faced each other last season. After the game I looked back over the year and it seemed in retrospect he was forgotten. The year started off with a bang against UNT, then he simply wasn't utilized that much for the next seven(?) games. Then, the rest of the season, he seemed to be the featured receiver. I remember watching him show out against State and then it seems he had a solid day against Arkansas as well. Bottom line, his touches definitely increased from his "dead spell" during the first part of the season. When I think of offensive players returning—noting my belief offensive production is going to be a huge key in 2013—Mett to Landry is the first thing that crosses my mind. In a lot of cases a young defensive line leads to run stoppers in the back seven becoming household names. I believe it's four sophomores on the DL which automatically leads me to Loston. However, his name doesn't equate with "breakout." People who follow SEC football will know his name. That said, on a national scale, I think it's safe to use the term. When it came to the safety position last season the name recognized by the majority of football fans was Reid.
Interesting. I kinda feel the same way. When I think of a "Breakout" player, I think of a player who hasn't done much of anything to this point, and then just explodes. Loston played at a pretty high level last year, so in my mind, there's not much room for explosion. The same COULD be said of Landry, since he came on so strong at the end of the year. To me, a breakout player is a Tyrann Mathieu in his freshman campaign or Kevin Minter last year...someone so unknown coming in that you have to consult the roster to figure out who he is, outside of the diehard fans.
Magee is 5'9" 212 lbs. Darren Sproles is 5'6" 190#'s. Magee is solid, the year at WR will help him in the long run. Magee in high school.... This is just the kind of player Cam likes to use. Also keep an eye on John Diarse and the Brazil kid, they could also be used well in this type of offense. Too many things Cam could come up with. Debo has too much speed, an Chief likes the speed.
Adrian Peterson played at 215 lbs last year and said it was his ideal playing weight. If Magee is 5'9 and 212, then that is plenty big enough. I think that I noticed our DE Hunter mentioned in this thread and will 2nd that nomination. I like a lot of the "names" in our D - Hunter, Freak, Kwon, Deion, Lamar, and a few others. They sound fast and physical.
