This game reminds me of the '69 Super Bowl where my Baltimore Colts were favored by as much as 36 pts against the Dog Ass New York Jets. People were saying the same things about the Colt defense and Joe Namath. The Colts had lost only one game all year and they had completely dominated every opponent in the games they won.

As we all know, the Jets and Namath won the game and won it in a fashion more dominating than the final score. I hope I don't feel that pain again after the Sugar Bowl!

Super Bowl III was indeed a fascinating upset. I've often wondered why the Colts were such heavy favorites, because the Jets were a great team that season. The season was the 1968 season. The SB game was mid January 1969. My theory is that the analysts and odds-makers know a lot more about handicapping pro teams now than they did in the past . . . but that's not a subject for this thread.

Anyway, I would hate to see the Sugar Bowl result in an upset!

    :crystal: LSU!

I'm not surprised that the Irish fans don't see Dorsey or LaRon as players to fear because I'm sure they feel that with Quinn, Samardja and McKnight, that they have a capable offense (and to their credit, they do).

But I think they realize that their defense has struggled against multi-demensional high-powered offenses (which LSU has).

I agree that, to their credit, they do have a capable offense. But against stiff competition, or at least stiff competition for them, they have struggled.
The closest thing to LSU's 'D' that they have faced is Meeechigan, and they struggled mightily. They are wise to fear the offense though, because if LSU! jumps on them early, they will become one dimensional by default, and our 'D' can then tee off on them. It is at that point that they will understand the fear of Laron, Dorsey, and company.
