Percentage of Democrats voting for Wall Street bailout: House Democrats: 73% Republicans: 45% http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-h1424/show Again, which party is the party of big government and in the pocket of big business?
No. My point was that folks calling Obama a "socialist" for his national health insurance plans should look at what others (led by Republicans) are doing that is a great deal more "socialist" than that. I mean it's actual collective ownership of property.
Good link, it was a bi-partisan effort. So . . . why are the democrats made out to be socialists and the republicans are not? That is the point I made. Aren't you a bit confused? Democrats were traditionally considered to be the big government party (before Bush). But Republicans have ALWAYS been the party of big business. Always.
Because in general, democrats want to use government power to "fix" what they perceive to be societal problems either through taxation or laws. The current Republican party isn't much better. Not this latest vote.
But . . taxation and laws are not what constitutes socialism. All Democracies have taxation and laws. Socialism requires collective ownership of everything. Nobody is proposing that in America.
Obama personally favors a single payor system, but is concerned about the millions of people working for Blue Cross... if you can believe a word out of the "spy behind enemy lines'" mouth. Since we know that he favors that, how can you argue that his current plan isn't a step in that direction?
