The average family consists of a mother and two children. The average grant in Louisiana is $200 per month. http://www.dss.louisiana.gov/departments/ofs/Family_Independence_Temporary_.html people are complaining about $200/month for two kids, unbelievable. the very common woman with 6 kids (of course by 6 different men) gets a whopping $366/month.
I don't care if they get richer. I'm talking about the part of the gap which resulted from the tax breaks for the wealthy, which is significant. The richest 1% should pay more taxes. At least take away their tax credits, tax loopholes, and offshore tax havens that allow them to evade their fair percentage. That bothers me, too. We'll just have to see what transpires under Obama. But the Democrats have become the party of fiscal responsibility. I've seen what 8 years of a Republican President has bought us. Not hardly. I don't think mcCain has even a basic grasp of the economy. I don't trust his judgement on economics at all! It's a non-issue. Are you actually suggesting that people should vote for McCain because the democratic Congress will do what it wants to anyway? Ever heard of something called a veto? Why elect a President who is impotent to affect the situation from his bully pulpit? I agree wholeheartedly. What a wasted vote! Better to elect a President that can work with the Congress to get something accomplished. If he fails, we get to replace him in four years. If he succeeds, then hooray for us. But 4 more years of Republican mismanagement, myopic foreign policy, economic failure, an unnecessary war, and trying to evade the Constitution is completely unacceptable.
Your "redistribution of wealth" remarks would apply to any taxes. And unless McCain has changed his policy, I'm pretty sure he wants to keep taxes around...
While not "completely discredited", it certainly has never worked as advertised. SabanFan read that it was good for us in a forwarded e-mail though so he clearly knows what he's talking about.
I know you're not naive enough to believe this is the only government program available. When you add in welfare, food stamps, housing assistance, grants, job training programs, free lunch, etc., etc., etc. plus the fact that these people are contributing ZERO to roads, schools, police, fire, utilities, etc., etc., etc....the cost to us is many times greater than the $200/month spin from you. I don't care if it's a penny. These programs were designed for people who need them not as a way for the Democrats to routinely buy votes.
He documented his argument with some facts. You have not done so, so why should I believe your unsubstantiated claims over his?
I could give you all the facts in the world and it wouldn't change your mind one bit. You would simply spin them into your own little opinion of how evil the Republicans are and how awesome the Democrats are. Oh, I forgot...you're an Independent. :hihi: Greed and helping the poor, deprived, disenfranchised democrats are what got us into this mortgage crisis. You have a personal problem (probably envy) that some people work for a living and are wealthy, so to "level the playing field" you decide to give to the non-contributors. ...and yes there is a huge difference between being poor and being a non-contributor. Most poor have pride and only take what they need. Non-contributors (aka...bought Democrats) believe they are owed by society and simply bitch and moan for more handouts. If you tell me people have no choice but to rip the copper out of the walls to sell because they're starving...I'm calling BS! If you tell me people had to use their Katrina FEMA check to buy spinner wheels for their car because they needed them...I'm calling BS! If you tell me people had to use their food stamps to buy alcohol because the stress of living off the government is tough...I'm calling BS! If you tell me people have to throw their trash on the street because they're poor...I'm calling BS! Why do we continue to provide assistance without any expectations that these people will act responsibly to pull themselves out of the gutter? Why?...because we don't want them to. If we can simply keep them poor...and out of our neighborhoods...and give them just enough to make them vote...then we have a winner! This has worked for the Democrats for years and will continue to. Your party doesn't give a rat's ass about these people. You give them just enough to keep them fat, dumb, and happy to vote the ticket. Did Hillary, or Obama, or Kerry, or Gore, or Schumer, or Kennedy, etc. invite Katrina victims to their cities or states? Hell no! They bitched that Bush didn't give them enough but you never heard them invite anyone into their neighborhoods, schools, etc. Just like illegal aliens...people want them for their own benefit but not in their backyards. Democrats claim to help the poor. BS! You simply exploit them.
Typical evasion--all talk, no substance. For the record, i have never charaterized the republicans as "evil", merely selfish, misguided, greedy, and near-sighted. Personal attacks are the last refuge of those who have exhausted their logic. I'll take that as a resignation. Tell, me, do you really imagine that I'm unemployed, on welfare and have no assets, investments or insurance? Worse, do you imagine that the super-rich, whose income is mostly money from investments, are hard-working? Do you seriously believe that Democrats are non-contributors? I'd ask you for evidence of that, but you only make claims, you don't offer actual examples or numbers. Geez, Purp. Now you're arguing with yourself! :insane: You sure aren't addressing anything I said. Where do you get this asinine notion? Ooops, nevermind. Look, the bulk of the poor in this country are WORKING poor. Hard-working, too. Janitors, farm workers, garbagemen, cashiers, yard men, etc. Unemployment is only 5%. You have welfare on the brain. Plus the Clinton-era welfare reforms limited welfare benefits tightly. There is a 3-year limit, it's mostly single mothers with dependent children, they have to take training and seek work and eventually leave the program. It's working. There are just not that many lazy non-working people. Most of them are criminals or homeless and receive no benefits at all. I'm not a Democrat, Independents are also voting against the Republicans this time.
