I don't dislike Miles at all. There are some qualities that I really like about him, in fact. He's loyal to his assistants. He intends to make his student/athletes better men, not just better players. He talks in a unique, entertaining way. He is a good coach, just not a great coach. And now that he has a national title on his résumé, I suspect he has lost some of the fire in his belly. My sense is that 8-5 and 9-4 don't make him lose any sleep.

Whom would I want to see replace him? Well, LSU is still a very attractive job. Could Chris Petersen be interested? What about Jon Gruden? Could you imagine the buzz in the SEC if Chucky were on the purple-and-gold's sidelines?! Gary Patterson will be a name that comes up for many openings this year. The possibilities are unlimited. It's just a matter of timing and handling the media.

But, we must let 2010 play out. Here's to hoping for 14-0 and to this thread being a moot point. :tigerhead

Chris Petersen scares me, i wouldn't hire Jon Gruden if i were having a Chuckie look alike contest, much less as my head football coach.

Gary Patterson i like. However, do you trust Joe Alleva to make the right pick if Miles were to leave or get canned? I sure as hell don't.

By asking the question, I hoped to start a legitimate debate about the future of the program. The essence of the question is this:

Most fans are not satisfied with the football product over the last two seasons (8-5, 9-4, 1-7 vs. UF, Bama, Ole Miss, and Arky). And there is a buzz that Les Miles is on the hot seat.

Obviously, if LSU were to go 5-7 this year, Les would be gone. But if they were to go 8-5 again, would Les be back in 2011? And would that be for the best?

Sure, LSU can surprise folks and win an SEC title this year. I'm all for that. But based on what we've seen over the last two years and in the spring game, I wouldn't say that's likely.

So, fans, I'd appreciate a response to my original question. Thanks.
