We do use 3 and 4 wideouts regularly, but there must be proper balance with runnning formations and mixed pass/run formations. It is a diverse offense that is the most effective. If all you do is run "everybody go long" it can be stopped by an average SEC dime defense. So you keep them from doing that by presenting them with a wide variety of threats, inside, outside, and short . . . not just long.
Tru'dat. But it is Miles' offensive philosphy to use 2 TE sets and a FB. Just a bunk Big 12 offense that will result in attrition on the coaching staff. It is disappointing that Miles chooses to choke down the speed because he won't gamble. Its risk/reward. Small risk, small reward. I can't dispute the diversity of the offense. The 50/50 run/pass mix has been effective, But we have to throw a fly pattern in every now and again and let the ball fly. Bowe can out leap just about anyone, and we have speed for days. Brazell has finally proven he can hold on to the ball. AND we have a QB who can make the deep throws. Not looking for an "everybody go long," but you have to let it fly and burn someone to make the safeties play another 5 yds deep, thus opening up the middle a bit more for our best hands, Buster Davis, to come across on the middle. We need some diversity in our pass routes.
Well, possibly. If you put 4 WRs in the game, that leaves 6 players to block for the QB. Plus, if a blitz looks likely (or even not), one of the WRs can run a short route to be a quick outlet for the QB.
I agree with CP Early IMO is our 4th best receiver... b/c on third downs, I like Big Play Bennie in the slot... So I think Early just has to wait for his turn....
Right now, it's Bowe & Buster's time to shine. They've had their problems just like the rest of our receivers, but they've been by far our best two all season. Bowe's physical attributes make him a touchdown machine. Buster's sharp route running make him a great threat to move the ball steadily down the field. Early is one of our best blockers & has great after-the-catch abilities, but his route running needs improvement. We lose Skyler & Benny after this year (doubtful that either Bowe or Buster leave early). Plus we get Lafell, whom we've heard has been really good in practices so far (and whatever WR recruits we get, but they'll most likely redshirt). That will be Early's junior year and while we should expect progress from him, it's doubtful that he will be our go to-guy because of the two in front of him (barring injuries, of course). That will leave Early's senior year for him to be a real playmaker. That's not very much time in the spot light for a talent like him, but I think he'll really shine once he gets his chance. My guess is it will be him & Lafell as our two main guys. Xavier Carter is the guy nobody can quite figure out. He's got speed, but that really doesn't mean much. Will he develop into a total receiver? Blocking, route running, catching? I sure hope so.
LMAO Bland! Afraid to call a spade a spade ... LIMP-DICK or IMPOTENT ... or even something politically correct ... Vertically challenged passing attack! Yeah, that's the ticket! LSU's vertically challenged passing attack! Yeah, let's hammer on that one in a new thread for a while! Top 5 reasons ... maybe a poll ... hmmmmmmmmm!
