I don't think we'll ever win one. They let the media and previous winners vote so you rarely end up with the best player in the country. The SEC is the most well represented conference in the NFL yet you don't see a bunch of Heisman winners running around from our conference. The media bias is so blatant that they've made this award the biggest joke in college sports. No offense but I could care less who wins. Will we have a split-Heisman this year so USC won't cry? :nope:
According to an article by FoxSports JR would be #15 in 2007 heisman race if he returns. I dont like the rankings, Run D Mc #4, Colt Brennan #1 and Clausen #24 (already with this crap) http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/6242686
After winning championships, I'd like to see our coaches & administration put a bigger push to have our players win individual awards in general. Being able to show recruits awards that recent players have won & being recognized as a top player in the country at your position is a very big plus. The Heisman is of course the most publicized one, but not the only one. As mentioned, I think it has to be a quarterback because we share the ball too much for a RB or WR to garner enough attention. Miles has said that if JaMarcus returns for his senior year, he will push for him to get the Heisman. Considering we are from the SEC and not one of the media favorites (although I think we are definitely getting there with our recent consistency) - I would have to view it as an accomplishment for any of our players to just get invited to New York. Of course, all that leaves is Perrilloux if not JaMarcus - or maybe Jarret Lee in a few years. I know RP wasn't that impressive this year during the games, but neither was Flynn. I have heard for quite a while that he is every bit as good as Flynn and they both had very similar numbers during the Spring Game, despite Flynn being 2 years ahead of him.
Well you got to figure this was what their list would have looked like if all the juniors stayed: 1. Adrian Peterson, RB Oklahoma 2. Colt Brennan, QB Hawaii 3. Steve Slaton, RB West Virginia 4. Brian Brohm, QB Louisville 5. Mike Hart, RB Michigan 6. Darren McFadden, RB Arkansas 7. Calvin Johnson, WR Georgia Tech 8. Pat White, QB West Virginia 9. Michael Bush, RB Louisville 10. Ted Ginn Jr., WR Ohio State 11. Marshawn Lynch, RB California 12. Dwayne Jarrett, WR USC 13. P.J. Hill, RB Wisconsin 14. John David Booty, QB USC 15. JaMarcus Russell, QB LSU 16. Colt McCoy, QB Texas McFadden #6 is just wrong. I would have him either 2nd and at worst 3rd in this list. Peterson would definitely have been the favorite going into next season. McCoy should be where Booty is, if not higher. Booty doesn't belong in this list at all. Otherwise I think the list is pretty credible.
Yes, the media determines who gets the Heisman, but don't be such a cynic as to think that performance is not a factor.
I understand about getting more rep for our program, but I'm not sure if I like our QB winning the Heisman. Heisman = jinx for NFL QB. Rb or WR - sure... just a little superstitous, I guess. I want to see JR do great in the NFL (crossing my fingers) I think if JR does great in the NFL, that's just as much good rep/press for our program having a high profile QB playing pro versus winning the Heisman. I was hoping Carson was gonna break this damn jinx, but we'll see if he will get back to his old self or not by the end of the season - oh well.
Right, BB. And that's why Jimmy Clausen who has yet to even put on a college jock strap is already being hyped as a Heisman potential for 2007. I am cynical, but with good reason.
I'd rather actually see him play a full college game before I claim him as one of college football's best. If JR stays for his Sr. season, he'll more than likely be LSU's first Heisman candidate since Kevin Faulk and Tommy Hodson. JR may very well not win it, but he'll be on the early watch list at the least.
