Do you wish women would not be raped in the first place? Or that all the women who have actually came forward? Or that actual victim's lives wouldn't be ruined? I'd like to see the stats you have to prove this mythical claim that women are automatically believed. They aren't, and pretty much never have been. #MeToo has changed the dialogue and unfortunately some women lie. The facts however, do not support the idea that anywhere near the number who lie can touch the number of those that go unreported or unconvicted. Facts are that out of 1,000 rapes/sexual assaults, 310 are reported to police. 57 lead to arrest. 7 lead to conviction, and just 6 end up in jail. So out of 1,000, just 6 will do time. And people wonder why so many go unreported. Compare that to robberies where out of 1,000, 619 are reported to police, 167 lead to arrest, 22 lead to conviction, and 20 end up in jail. And it's not just women. In 2016, a survey of active duty military concluded that 6,300 men were sexually abused but only 17% reported it. Why is that? Same reasons apply to women. Lots of studies have been done on the issue of false reporting. Validity puts the range between 2-10%. Even 1% is too much and yet, it pales to the percent that go unreported. Defending rapists and sexual abusers by focusing on false reports isn't useful IMO. It's taken decades to make changes in how these cases are prosecuted and yet very few prosecutors will move forward with a case. Most end up pleading to something lesser. True. And most of the cases hitting the news are obviously about famous people....actors, singers, athletes. There may be a disproportionate number of false reports because money is involved. Then again, there's Jameis Winston's accuser, or the accuser in the Stanford swimmer case. Their lives are completely derailed and the accused? Well, one is just fine, the other will be.
It's pretty clear what he meant. He wished there was a presumption of innocence. That's what this thread is about but the victims are the falsely accused. Too many, and that's what this is about. No one is arguing that.
Unfortunately far too many others go unreported, uncharged, unconvicted. I have nothing more to add to a contentious topic other than to say, the attitude that "bitches lie" is not going to change anything nor is it going to improve the situation between the genders. It's become acrimonious and toxic. Men and women view each other in a negative distrustful light. Both sides have responsibility in that. The lack of respect is a good place to start.
"A Michigan woman who lied about being raped on her college campus was sentenced to jail time on Monday. Mary Zolkowski, 21, was sentenced to 45 days in jail after pleading guilty to fabricating a story about being sexually assaulted in a parking lot at Delta College in Bay County, MLive.com reported. Judge Joseph Sheeran, who also ordered the woman receive a mental health assessment, did not give Zolwolski credit for previous time served." Excellent outcome. This needs to happen when these women get caught. Jail time, period. Best way to deter. I'd suggest sterilization but some might accuse me of being too harsh.
@shane0911 You can delete this thread as I thought in it seven it's purpose. Oh I spoke to Bayou and he agrees.
