I read someplace that it’s up to the school when to cancel the scholarship. Provided the player is still going to class, many wait till the end of the season or end of the semester, which gives him a chance to change his mind.
I don't think so. I think that only happens if you officially transfer. You can always change your mind. Entering the portal only means that an athlete is testing the waters to see what universities are interested in offering them a scholarship. If the player transfers to another university, then the scholarship with the original school ends and the new school uses a scholarship on that player. Players entering the portal might think they are good enough to hook up with a top 5 university, etc., but those schools are limited to the 85/25 rules also. Take Bama as an example...they get the pick of the litter of recruits and transfers, so someone thinking they'll leave LSU and go to Alabama needs to be better than anyone Bama has committed in their incoming class as well as be better than any other player in the portal (as well as better than what's on their depth chart). What is probably the most typical use case for transfer portals are players that feel they are buried on the depth chart and want to be a starter. The Devil's bargain is that they usually go to an inferior program and hope they excel in order to catch the eye of NFL scouts.
Please make it stop... https://mobile.twitter.com/Walker_Howard4/status/1470191799662792705 This is worse than the gnomeking aflac commercials.
These guys that go to U-Lab basically on campus and then leave to go somewhere else are real head scratchers. They can basically take unoffical visits everyday.
