It all started with SEC ladies, outside of LSU's fan base. It's just a euphemism so their "Dudes" don't know the code.

It's an Auburn thing. The whole corndog business is just too silly to get annoyed about. It is so childish that it makes us embarrassed for them. Barners come around campus and giggle at each other and yell "corndog, corndog". It is about the lamest taunt I've ever heard (OK, "Hoddy Toddy" may be worse), but it is apparently the best they can come up with. Some kind of weiner fixation, I guess. It could be worse--they call Alabama the Crimson Turd.

It ain't even original. The corndog gag was written in the 1960's by Oklahoma State fans about Iowa fans. You remember Iowa, the land of corn and hogs. Corndogs are the local cuisine there. Some brilliant Agbarn fan just switched LSU for Iowa and put it on the internet even though it made no sense at all. Anybody who has ever tailgaited at LSU know that LSU smells like jambalaya, gumbo, smoked andouille, fried shrimp and boiled crawfish.

Hmmm, and here I thought it was in reference to the Green Wave.

In 1975 I attended the Ga. Tech-Tulane game in the dome (was dating a Tech-boy). Two of the 'things' that went on were a rendition of the 'Greenie Weinie' song and hundreds of hotdogs (dyed green of course) sailing through the air towards the Tulane players on the sidelines.....

It is really stupid to call us that, but if people want to sound stupid, I don't put myself out trying to stop them!

I agree. Same goes for "Gumps", "Barners", etc. I know I'm in the minority, it just doesnt' do anything for me. First of all, to call them anything other than their name/mascot, gives them credence, of sorts. We don't call the insignificant teams such names- or is there such a term applied to the Wildcats, Vandals, etc? Just my .02

That's right.. That's how we do. If I ever catch someone tailgating and cooking corn-dogs, I'm tellin' Dorsey!

Since we are talking about all this stuff I have to chime in on something I don't understand. It's the whole box of Tide and rolls of toilet paper thing.
I know why they do it but it looks strange. How about rolling pins instead of toilet paper? You know Alabama has the "Red Neck" rep going on and I just don't think I would be wearing a box of Tide with toilet paper on my head to football games to get on TV. So what is Bama's mascot? It is a Crimson Tide or an Elephant? Some people up in Canada think its a Bear.

Then there's Auburn. What is there Mascot? Is it an Eagle or a Tiger? I have folks always ask me about this who are outside the conference when talk of Mascots come up. I think all the other SEC schools are pretty easy to identify what their mascot is.

I'm sure both schools love their mascot identity and it makes sense to them. I guess that's all that counts.
