Scholarships have always been a series of 1 year scholarships. That protected the schools in cases where players left early for the draft, could no longer play due to injury, got kicked off of the team for grades or conduct, etc.,. Pulling the scholarship if a player withdraws from the portal is kind of a dick move, IMO. Coaches can leave anytime and every other student is allowed to go to a different school if it behooves them. Why can't football players assess their options as well?
So is quitting on your team because something didn't go your way. If a kid wants to portal then best of luck, do so without a scholly!
IMO, they should make scholarships 4-year commitments for the players and the coaches should also be made to honor their entire contract, however long it may be. That would stop all this under the table crap and stop the players and coaches from jumping ship. Currently, there is absolutely no commitment from either side and usually the team with the most money is going to land the best players and field the best teams. It's just another example that when money becomes the main driving focus, it's guaranteed to turn into a cluster!
I doubt this will ever remotely happen. No way a coach will honor his contact if a better one is out there. Oh well such as it is….
I agree it will never happen because it's so out of control now. They sad part is playing a sport in college is supposed to be a part of the overall college experience for the student, but today it has nothing to do with college anymore and is all about money, money, money.
