So . . . the roast pork and the sandwich press is what makes it different from just-another-ham-and-cheese?
And the bread. Cubans are pretty emphatic about it. They all bitch about where they get there bread from. And I admit, it will taste different on random french bread.
Red, it's the bread like Dude said AND the roast pork. Try baking your own bread http://www.tasteofcuba.com/pancubano.html and be sure to use roasted pork loin http://www.recipezaar.com/Cuban-Roast-Pork-51000 I mentioned before that this website has links to latin cuisine of every country http://lanic.utexas.edu/la/region/food/. (not all links are to sites that are in English). Dude, the only cuban sandwich I used to eat was from Vasquez in Gentilly. Unfortunately the owner, My friend Jose, was murdered in his restaurant by the boyfriend of one of his employees during a robbery. He hired the girl because she had a rough life and he was trying to help her out. Last one out of New Orleans ...turn out the lights.
I will see what I can do about bringing some to a LSU game next fall. Good friend of mine with a cuban/spanish restaurant here wants to come and it will either be cuban sands or paella. Should be a good day regardless.
Cali's famous buffalo wings dunked off in Bob's famous Big Boy bleu cheese chased with Pacifico. Not the sh!tty Pacifico aged in America, the fresh hauled up from the Baja sittin in a bucket of ice. Tonights temp; a beeeeutiful 69 degrees. Were eatin on the porch!
I don't bake bread. Trust me, it's not a good plan. I'm more of a food-fixer than a cook and bread requires more patience and non-recipe nuances than I am capable of. So . . . where does a feller find Cuban bread in BR?
Mom's in town, so she's making chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, white gravy, and the girls are helping her make homemade bisquits (which was the first thing I learned to make from scratch when I was 7 or 8.)
mmmm.... i love to bake (and eat!!!) home made bread. i make a great rosemary focaccia. if i get the nola house finished for football season, i'll have to make you some.
