Yea, they screwed up twice. I don't think you can hit our guy short of the ball going 10 yards. They hit our guy at 9 yards, before he touched it, and that prevented him from catching it. Les was right IMO. I am not a rules expert, but that's what I thought.
We touched it first before 10 yards, so that part of the rule goes by the wayside. The only question is does the receiving team have a right to try to the field the ball uninterrupted if the ball is not past 10 yards? I don't believe so.
they review crap all the time in the sec and get it wrong. all the freaking time. the rule is simple. the ball must go 10 yards unless the receiving team touches it first. however, the guy blew us up before it went 10. terrible call. typical inept refs in an sec game.
I don't think so, either. I believe it must be a free-for-all. But it was just a strange looking play all the way around. Maybe I just couldn't believe that we'd screwed up YET AGAIN in that half.
That's the way I see it. If the ball hasn't traveled 10 yards then and the receiving team gets decked before he touches it then it should be a penalty.
This was eventually what we determined on the phone. It was very close, but we thought we were hit just a fraction of a second before we touched the ball.
Yes, this is what I think. It would be the same thing if a team squib kicked into the middle of the field and the ball is just bouncing around and then you see the kicking team blowing up a player trying to get to the ball so his teammate can recover it instead. It's legal.
