i cannot deny that people have experienced miracles, that is, if you define miracle as something really unlikely, but awesome. one in a million has to happen sometimes. some really lucky awesome things have happened, as well as some miraculously terrible things. i do deny that the reality of anyone's faith has every accomplished anything. sure, why not. who cares. i know a guy named jesus now. (pronounced hey-soos). what do i care if a man existed? you might agree that it is a little less likely that a dude was magic. oh how you underestimate the ability of people to take facts and adapt them to whatever. yunno people believe in nostradamus too. people will believe anything. tell em something stupid, tell em that thing sends em too heaven with the pack of sweet virgins and they will fly a plane into a skyscraper for it. tell them a virgin had a magic baby and if they believe it they wont burn in hell, and you will have millions of people trying to show how they believe it more than the next guy.
the old testament also says god hates shrimp: Leviticus 11:9-12: 9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. 10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: 11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination. 12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you. i am neither gonna avoid shrimp, nor worship stupid jesus. shrimp are awesome, and jesus sucks.
Let's see.. Most historians seem to think so, but the case is far from conclusive. I happen to think he's a literary fiction, for a number of reasons. That's debatable. Christianity endures on that opinion, but whether or not it was founded on a human Jesus is a controversial historical question. For example, the first NT writer, Paul, never refers to an earthly Jesus. Farrell Till disagrees with that, as do many Biblical scholars. At any rate, it's easy to write a fictitious life in fulfillment of a prophecy. Again, those are matters for debate. The "born of a virgin" prophecy is especially problematic, and there are blatant contradictions in the Bible regarding Jesus's lineage. That's a non sequitur. One could make similar declarations regarding other religions; obviously they cannot all be true. People are not immune to believing falsehoods, especially popular ones that carry penalties for skepticism. That's false. If it were so I'd probably be a Christian.
right, like they are forcing you to read in your boring philosophy class: "If god did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him." --Voltaire
OK. Would you say that it was a miracle that a little girl with a nerve disorder, but NOT muscular dystrophy who has no health insurance and whose family has no ability to pay any of the upwards of $100,000 in medical bills becomes the MDA ambassador for Baton Rouge? Your issue is twofold; You are rejecting historical fact (Jesus Christ indeed existed and indeed was all of the things that the prophecies foretold) on the basis that you cannot believe in a Creator of the universe. You are also equating a pagan religion (Al'ilah = the moon god of Mecca) which advocates killing and death to unbelievers with Christianity. Sure, Christians in the past have killed and crusaded but the difference is you won't find Christ advocating that kind of behavior anywhere in the Scriptures. Mohammed himself killed and help spread Islam via the sword.
Give me some information about Farrell Till. URL? Texts? You are right, I could write about something Nostradamus said and call it fact.... but don't say that many biblical scholars disagree with it without coming with some evidence. Show these blatant contradictions. You actually can't say that about any other of the world religions as, especially in the Koran, there is constant abrogation. You have to believe in the existence of God first before you can make that logical leap. If you strongly believe you evolved from a paramecium totally independent of any outside force no amount of evidence could convince you. Sadly I think that is where you are in your life now.
i dunno what you are talking about. is that supposed to be a miracle some person got chosen to be the leader of some group or other? i am not rejecting that jesus existed. maybe he did, maybe he didnt. if i had to guess, i would say he did, but i am not a historian. either way, his existence is not a "fact". it is an educated guess at best. if i had to guess i would say he did exist. but maybe not. right, and i can also find people who say islam is a peaceful religion. and i can sure find a hell of a lot of violence and senseless slaughter carried out by our precious lord in the old testament. dont you see? you can make up whatever you want.
also lets not forget kwanzaa is the only holiday this season not based on magic! sweet sweet kwanzaa.
You guys are debating the existence of God over the internet? What's God's handle? I hear he's a Notre Dame fan....... "GOD"? Revenge of the NERDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thats true. we are dorks. still though, every single day i am stunned that such a huge percentage of the world believes in stupidity so crazy it would seem you could only trick a retarded child with it. so i tend to talk about it a bit. like you might feel if the rest of the world besides you worshipped squirrels.
