From the film I have seen from HS he doesn't look like a QB to me... unless that has changed in the last year and IF he feels like he should be in there at QB every play I think his expectations are too high. Most major colleges were not going to allow him to play QB. No doubt he should be used more but if he thinks he is going to go to another college and step up as the starting QB well I remain suspect on that. LSU does need to get him on the field more. I like Shepard and he seems to have a good attitude.... so right now I would like to see him in the game more.
I know I wouldnt be happy. The fact is Shepard should be in the game. Most coaches would kill to have a talent like Shepard and would play him as a true freshman or not. Not Miles though, instead he is letting him ride the pine. He gets 3-4 plays per game all of which everyone knows whats coming. Its utterly pathetic. Shepard could be used so many ways. Shepard could be in the slot or RB. Use some misdirection with he and Scott in a T formation. Put Shepard in motion you can hand it to him or the back or a QB keeper. Like this the D might be off balance to help out the OL. At any other school in the country Shepard would be getting 5-10 or more touches per game. I mean hell Randle didnt play either! Randle>C Mitchell
He will get his this season and he isn't going anywhere. Bad rumors have been swirling which have been debunked and that does not match Shep's character at all.
What is there about our quarterbacks performance that leads you to that opinion? I know if I was the number one rated quarterback recruit in the country, graduated early in order to be ready to play, then had to sit and watch JJ struggle, I would be upset. If JJ was performing at a championship level, sitting would be understandable. I suspect that if Shep was a Gator there woudl have been some playing opportunities.
:geaux: He can be used at other positions besides QB, such as WR and some RB. I'd like to see him in the slot. He's that versatile and talented. But his greatest impact right now, IMO, is out of the wildcat/wild tiger position. He's got so many options to utilize his talents from that position. Really thought we were gonna see him throw in the UF game and I'd like to see him run the option. As far as his attitude, I surely hope he keeps a good one. He's a kid with strong character and hopefully attitude won't be an issue. But it could be if he continues to ride the pine after having burned his red shirt already. Again, A.J. Green and Julio Jones didn't have any problems getting in to games and contributing as freshmen. Just sayin..... :LSU231:
+1 Shep could be a Percy Harvin type with the added ability to pass. I wonder how Meyer would use him. On UF I bet he would be a candidate for SEC freshman of the year already. Shep said that he would like to help LSU any way he can including DB. That is a heck of an attitude besides the fact that he was directly responsible for helping recruit Loston & Cunningham. It turns out none of them are playing. If Seastrunk was there or watching on TV I wonder what HE was thinking.
If I was Shepard, I would be thinking things like: Why did I not get into this game? Do the coaches not trust me? I'm leading the team in yards per carry and I didn't get a single snap. How many more games will I not get into? I could have made a difference had I gotten into the game. This type of negative thinking snowballs and one bad thought leads to another. Although the five wins are not directly related to Shepard, LSU has won every game he has participated in and has lost the only game in which he did not get on the field. Someone else mentioned it, but I will give the credit to DandyDon because that is where I read it this morning: Shepard and Randle riding the pine has to have a negative impact on recruiting when true freshmen like Julio Jones and AJ Green are full time starters at other SEC schools. Believe what you want, but to these 5 star recruits, early playing time makes all the difference in the world where you decide to commit to.
I agree, he needs more playing time, he seems to be a great kid. I wouldn't mind seeing him in there with Lee in shotgun with him being the RB next to the QB..... and then switch it up.... have Lee go to WR and put shepard in as wild cat.... no huddle and no looking to the sideline.
Im not in the loop so I dont hear about any rumors although it would be unusual for a young man like Shep not to be a bit frustrated. He's a competitor and wants to play. It would be reasonable to assume he's voicing some of that frustration to his confidants which could easily be blown out of proportion.
Here is what I don't know about Shepard: Does he have what it takes, meaning does / can he pass well enough to start at QB in the SEC? Our coaches have had plenty of opportunties to size this up given that he got here early. If he doesn't and will be Percy Harvin type player for us, why isn't he being utilized as such more. You have to think he's had enough time to learn the plays. Since I don't know the answer to my own question, and I doubt anyone here has credible info on this, I suspect will all be left to ponder.
