@Kal-El012 yeah, there's no doubt ADHD meds are over prescribed. I think they should only be taken recreationally for special occasions, like trips to vegas.
No one's gonna fess up to Viagra or Cialis? I work in the medical field and I know there's gotta be a ton of people taking blood pressure/cholesterol/diabetes medication here. Louisiana has got to be near the top in those 3 conditions per capita.
I take a daily multivitamin and usually a couple of juice plus each day. I take a couple of Aleve about once/month when I have some sort of minor sports injury that I want to lessen while I work out. When I've had minor surgeries for a broken hand or wisdom teeth, I've taken the pain pills and enjoyed them.
That's tragic and you know the situation with a member of my family who fell into that same cycle you're referring to, but the common thread in almost all of these stories is that they medications were abused. Either they were bought off the street with no legitimate prescription or they took more than what they were supposed to. I was in a car wreck (hit by a drunk driver) a few years ago that messed my back up pretty bad. I take prescription medication to help manage the pain. It's never entirely gone. What I don't do is take more than my prescribed dose. Admittedly, this takes discipline because you do build up a tolerance, so the temptation is to take more. Luckily, I have resisted this and my tolerance has leveled out and the pain can still be controlled with my initial doseage. Another thing I do not do ever, is drink in excess when I'm on medication. Alcohol combined with prescription pain meds can arrest your breathing and cause accidental OD while sleeping. Bottom line is, if you educate yourself, are seen regularly by a doctor, and take your medication as prescribed, your chances of ODing are almost nil.
I'm terrified of being addicted to anything. It's been about 2 months since my last cup of coffee. had to cut that crap out. Caffeine is the devil.
I've just never been an addictive personality. Not alcohol, not caffeine, not hard drugs, not even serious narcotics. But I know folks who have been addicted to everything. It's something in the mind.
definitely in the mind, ive never been addicted to anything and I dont think I would be able to, however i ve never done any hard drugs and will not.
Tobacco is the only thing I feel like I may be addicted to. However I can work a whole 8 hour shift without smoking a cigarette. I thought about those E-cigs but I am not sure how great those are. They have been getting a little negative press as of late.
I've said the same for most of my life. I just know so many people who began thinking since its been prescribed that it's fine. Then it just snowballs into more and more shit. This guy I know eats klonopin/Xanax, flexeril, Vicodin/norcos, roxies you name it. Eats them like chiclets for weeks on end. I don't think he's long for earth. It began as a back injury.
