Cap One Bowl.... Our last touchdown I was going nuts... "We gotta play? Screw that!".... And then I just sat and moped after that last pass went right in front of me.... "We gotta play again?..... F*** that..."
I'll have to explain this a bit. But I remember the 1966 Cotton Bowl against Arkansas, when LSU won 14-7. Don't sound like much, heh. Well, LSU was 7-3 going into the game, maybe ranked #20, I don't really remember. Arkansas was 10-0, and riding the longest win streak in the nation at the time, 22 games straight. Word was that "LSU was not worthy of the Cotton Bowl bid". I think Arkansas was rated like #2. Nobody gave LSU a chance. Pat Screen was the starter at QB, but injury prone. When he went down, Billy Ezell (Captain Easy) would come in and that season, he played a lot of games for us. Injuries hurt us that season, and most Tiger fans felt we were better than a 7-3 club. One reason I became a good Tiger fan is in the 60's, LSU pulled a good number of big upsets. It always seemed if we were the underdog, we fought a lot harder and pulled out many wins. We knew this game would be tough, but Pat Screen was going to be healed up and ready to go. We had hope of playing better than the regular season. We did. On game day, we ran mostly, with Don Schwab and Joe Labruzzo carrying the load. Screen passed to Doug Moreau when necessary. The defense was magnificent, holding the number 2 team in the nation to 7 points. It was suspensefull down to the last play of the game. But I think when LSU scored the go ahead touchdown, I have never been more excited in my life as a Tiger fan! Some of it had to do with my age, early teens at the time, and I just don't get quite that excited anymore. But I jumped for joy and yelled a bunch for a while. We had a little gathering of Tiger fans out in the country, and I went with my Dad. Everyone was screaming. It was a good day! The event was so momentus that there were license plates made to commemorate the event, and my Dad bought one. We had it on the car for about 5 more years, LSU Cotton Bowl Champs 1966 LSU 14 Arkansas 7 I heard that Jerry Jones, Dallas Cowboys owner, played O-line in that game for the Hogs. Oops, supposed to be lost it frustrated, but I ain't deleting this post.
The Ole Miss game is a pretty good choice. Really good, in fact. Assuming you meant, "get angry and upset", how about Mike Archer's entire second season? That was one long nightmare, if ever there was one. Seriously, it has to be Miami of Ohio by about a country mile. I remember sitting in front of the living room stereo, literally kneeling and begging through the speakers for the team to pull it out. Just unbearable.
The Earthquake season? No way, that team just put you on a ugly roller coaster, but they did win 8 games and beat the team that was co-champ with us.
Good - Warren Morris's homer, I was in a podunk town in Tennessee on business and watched the game from my motel room -- almost ripped out the t.v. I was so excited.:tigbas: Bad - Losing to Georgia Tech in the 2nd round of the NCAA tourney the year that we had Chris Jackson and the Twin Towers (Shaq and S. Roberts). We should have won it all
Good- Bluegrass Miracle, and when Donnie Jones' punt bounced around on the Superdome turf for 6 seconds!!!!!!!! Bad- 1998 Alabama, up by 2 scores with 3 minutes left, and we lose. They recover 2 onside kicks in that timespan also. I think I cried after that game.
OK, I got my "frustration game" now. I had to look up the year, but I got it. 1963, Ole Miss 37 LSU 3 Woof... I watched the game, a day game on TV. We had enjoyed success many times againt Ole Miss, and in my young life at the time, I thought it was like the seasons, each year we would beat Ole Miss. We had a good club that year, but never got into the game. We came out flat, got beat, got beat, then we got beat some more. I watched the whole game, was depressed for two weeks. I learned about "things not staying the same".
Best moment - HAS to be Morris homerun! Riding in the car with my dad going up to Kentwood on I-55. When he hit I swear we almost caused a wreck. Jumping up and down in a car is not very safe. Worse - UF game in 03. I was at Airborne School and it was me and a SFC from Florida in the bar and a wager was made that of course I lost.
