90% are on social security. 50% take public transportation everywhere they go. 80% speak english only as a second language, if at all. Since 9/11 it's difficult to sneak dope into the stadium. 40% are too busy scalping tickets outside of the other numerous sporting events. Some are scared of getting shot in a drive by outside of the stadium by one of their players. On top of all of that, they show a lot of soccer on TV there.
From the UM web site... The University of Miami, a privately supported, non-sectarian institution currently enrolls more than 15,200 students in approximately 150 undergraduate, 130 master's, 60 doctoral, and two professional areas of study. Miami's students represent every state and more than 110 foreign countries. More than 100,000 alumni reside in all 50 states as well as in over 140 foreign countries
so what do you think the estimate of lsu to um fans will be at the peach bowl? i guess this does depend on if there is a soccer game that evening.
Maybe because Miami is a hotbed for Latin Americans and they make up a large portion of the city. So it might be safe to assume that their cultural practices dictate the success of some of the teams in Miami. Latino's can't really relate to american football or basketball. I don't know...maybe that's farfetched. Just an idea, though.
I think there will be more Georgia fans there than Miami. Now, don't forget that it is cool for every little thug in America to own a Miami jersey or hat. There could be some local "soldiers" in Atlanta that come just to make people think they live in Miami.
According to ncaa.org, Miami is 88th in the country in attendance as a percent of capacity, averaging 43,500 fans in a 72,000 seat stadium. Hell, they ought to call them the Echoes. Because these kind of stats are what we use in our business each day, I can tell you that Miami/West Palm is the 4th largest GMA in the U.S. (GMA is the reach network TV stations and newspapers have before other stations or newspaper take over)... so even if you got rid of all the old people and non-english speaking residents, you'd still have some 4 million people to sell 72,000 tickets to.... so it must be the beach... or fear of going downtown on a weekend.
They don't travel well because their parole doesn't allow them to cross state lines... Unless you're on the football team.
