I hold God close to my brain. If God exists, he is within me, not an incarnate being in an imaginary holy kingdom.

I don't require salvation. And I have kind of an issue with the whole Son-O-God thing. Don't even get me started on the Holy Ghost. I haven't met anyone yet who understands that concept well enough to explain it.

Western Civilization holds true to the Ten Commandments because they make a lot of sense in civilized society, by and large. It is the basis for western morality, supplemented by the Golden Rule and some other more enlightened New Testament morality.

It is the message that is important to humanity, not the ancient mythologies created by a illiterate oral tradition, not "holy men", and certainly not the beads, rattles, incense, idols, the chanting of incantations and other ritual foolishness.

Oh, I know what you mean; I cringe when they break out the incense at Mass, but at least that's not every week. But they do ring the bells in church every week.....absolutely archaic, by my thinking. I'll readily admit I have my problems with Catholicism. Not Christianity.

Common sense... All life on the planet dying in less than 12 hours. Not happening.

If you want to make that prediction, go ahead. I haven't. For that matter, neither did Mr. Camping. He said it begins today with the return of Jesus. The actual end doesn't come until October 21, by his timetable.

right. my question in why there is any value in these myths, regardless of if these kooks believe them, or if kooks like you believe them. you act like the bible has some historical justification that gives it credibility. your claim is absurd. the great flood happened because some moron saw a smaller flood? fine. then why does the bible say there was an ark with animals and noah? where is the history for that? why do you think it is relevant that there was a small flood sometime. there are always small floods. it is meaningless and irrelevant.

i wish people could apply this sort of common sense to other ideas, like virgin birth of magical saviors.
