I don't think so. A pc volume control, if it was a potentiometer, would not have a separate case as this appears to have. This appears to be some sort of portable volume control, almost like an inline control for a "line out" audio feed that is normally a steady voltage. Tigermark, is this thing battery operated? Are there any other parts to it? IE, does something plug into it? ETA, sorry Okie, I just realized you said remote volume control. That would be plausible.
It has a volume control, it is battery operated and it does plug into something. Here is a picture of the back side with a few things I erased:
Close enough! It is a hearing appliance (can't say "hearing aid" or insurance won't cover it), but it is not old fashioned. It is a BAHA (Bone anchored hearing appliance). The post is implanted in the skull (usually behind the ear) and the appliance can be attached to the post. The BAHA transmits vibrations (amplifies sound) through the bone to the inner ear. It is useful for those that have a functioning inner ear, but problems with the middle ear or ear canal (either through disease or from birth). My son wears one. It is different from a chochlear implant in that the chochlear implant actually snakes into the inner ear to excite the inner ear nerves in people that have inner ear problems. This BAHA simply rattles the skull (both inner ears can hear the sound). Baha Implant
