This is a lame attempt to get his name in the paper and appear to be patriotic. Why waste valuable session time drafting legislation that is utterly meaningless?

I think the part of the article TigerWins bolded makes it relevant. The couple of flag burning cases in the link below that went before the Supreme Court were struck down with 5 - 4 decisions. With Roberts and in particular Alito now on the bench, the balance of power could have shifted. Whether you think it is right or wrong, the court may not be what it used to be and could rule differently next time. We won't know until these types of cases come before it.

I see the relevance, but it is still a waste of the session to draft laws and bring them to vote based on some event that may or may not occur in the future.

The flag burning amendment has passed the House several times. It will never get through the Senate. Restricting free speech is something countries like China do.

I could not agree more. They are only doing their cause (whatever it is) a disservice.

He's right. This will never pass & every legislator knows it. It's a purely political move to make people like you think this politician is a good American & get your vote, when he's just another pond scum.

I don't see it as a waste of time. You only see it as a waste of time because you don't care one way or the other.

It's a waste of time because it is against the constitution. That's why I see it as a waste of time. It's not an issue of whether I care about whether people burn the flag, because I do care about that.

It's only considered against the Constitution because some libs, over twenty years ago, said it was. That can easily be fixed.
