1. Great movie.

I fell the same way, though it will probably never be much more than fantasy in our life times.

  2. You just judged me (by giving your opinion), just like Stacey judged her in-laws (by giving her opinion), just I judged Stacey (by giving my opinion). Was it inappropriate? You be the judge. Stacey's first post regarding all this asked us "am I wrong to think this?" One reasonable mind might conclude that Stacy honestly wanted to hear our opinions. Another reasonable might conclude that it was obvious that Stacy just wanted us to agree with her. It's debatable, just like everything else.

But yes, I tried to drop it. I'm sorry that when the Dude brought it up again, I weakly let it get to me.
  3. I did a google search and couldn't find it, but there's an interesting quote which goes something like this:

Democracies are doomed to fail, because people will always vote into office the policians that promise to give them back the most.

Red, you got me on this one?
  4. And anyone "Reasonable" should have realized that was squelched in post # 53. Tryin to be nice here John.
  5. :dis:

It was dropped already, no need to bring it back. I will continue to attempt to get this thread back on track.
  6. Parso, what da hell happened to Davenport this weekend. Word on the down low was that he'd commit.

  9. So, is your point that capitalism & socialism are the same thing because both are selected by the majority populations of the state in a democracy?

That is the only thing I've been able to take from this. Otherwise I cannot see how this is relevant at all.

If that is your contention, then I will say that a true democracy is a democracy regardless of the leaders & philosophies it elects into office. The political spectrum encasing capitalism & socialism is independent of democracy, and may be both inside and outside of it.
  10. I agree with that, but its hard to find someone that can come across as an honest politician to everybody. I personally think both Obama and McCain have the image of an honest politician. From what I've seen, many on here don't find Obama to have the honest politician image. What about McCain?

Here's an old article someone emailed me. I think the issue most people have with welfare is not that fact that it is anti-American, but they just feel that the welfare system is not managed by honest politicians.
