I would be disappointed if we hired Les Miles, because I think that Del Rio and Petrino are better candidates and I don't want to pay a $1 million buy out for a 28-20 coach who just got blown out. I can tell he is a good coach, but I would prefer others. If not Del Rio or Petrino, I would prefer a top NFL coordinator like Nolan.
I like Les Miles because of his fiery personality and enthusiasm for the game. He's recruited well at OSU and has put a decent product on the field at a university who will always play second fiddle to OU. That being said, it does concern me about the poor defensive performances I've seen from OSU. Especially, the one I witnessed in person here in Shreveport against Louisiana Tech. OSU led by 18 in the fourth quarter and just had a meltdown and ended up losing to Tech. Then after last night's abysmal performance against Ohio St., I'm really even more concerned. If you can't get your team motivated to play Ohio State in San Antonio, with the majority of the fans being clad in orange in black, then something is amiss.
No disrespest to LSU, Saban, or you LSUfan91 but Sabanwas viewed as a mediocre, at best, coach when he was hired at LSU. And, he was at the second fiddle school in the state just like Les. Sound familair? Except that Miles has the reputation of an excellent recruiter, something that wasn't said about Saban.
good points. LSU is not a hard place to recruit. they have the 3 rd or 4th best high school talent per capita in the country and no other state school to compete with. if you lock up this state in february every year on signing day you'll always do well. it isn't always the coach that recruits the players it's the atmosphere, the campus, the weather, the tv contracts, the system (off or Def), how soon they'll play (perilloux) etc. miles would do ok, i'm just worried that he's a little crazy.
I think Les would do fine, and I think the thought of him going to Michigan is overstated. People said the same thing about Stoops going to Fla and he has passed on that. It appears to me that the HC at a major college football program either stays put, goes to the NFL or is fired. When is the last time a coach left one big time university for another? No university will pay our coach more than we will if we want to retain him, that has already been proven. Just my take.
Franchione left Bama for Texas A&M which nearly crumbled the folks at the Capstone, but it has happened before but definitely not very oftern.
Thanks for the input. I was trying to remember when it last happened and I could not remember. Sorry for the brief hijack, but what were the underlying reasons he left, probation at Bama?
