LOL. He's all there. Most days he is very laid back, no curse words. Says things like dadgummit, darnit, etc... Game days are different, he gets fired up. He has been great up here, players love him, and our big boosters, although few and far between, have embraced him. I mean we have the second lowest athletic budget in the Big XII and we are doing a $115 million stadium renovation. Don't get me wrong, it's been long overdue, but no other coaches have gotten even close to getting it done. Our season tickets sales are at an all time high, (increased by 15,000 last 3 years), and he gets his share of big time recruits. It would be hard to compete agaist TexASS, the Gooners, and aTm every year for recruits, but he gets them to come to Stillwater.
I think he would do very well here at LSU. He has done a great job with what he had to work with when he got there.
Rashaun was there, Simmons product. Bobby Reid, XLK, and the other 3,4,and 5* recruits are his. The cupboard is loaded with freshman, sophmores and now some stud jucos for next year.
His one drawback, if you can call it that, is his fierce loyalty to his assitants. When hired he was offered $800,000/year. He turned it down and took $400,000/year to hire better assistants. One of his not so good hires is our DC, Bill Clay. King of the 4-2-5. As one of you stated earlier, we were like 73rd in defense this year. We scored 34 points a game and went 7-4. If we had a solid defensive scheme, we probably still get beat by aTm, but go 10-1. He has stuck by Bill Clay's side even though in 4 years of this defense, it has gotten progressively worse, not better. He did just sign a new extension,(5 days ago), that is supposed to keep him here through 2010 at $1.5 million/year. It supposedly has a million dollar buyout. I'm very interested to see how this plays out. You guys have one of the premier programs in the country, and would be very hard for anyone to turn down,
Doesn't do much for me Maybe I need to keep up with college football more ... frankly, I had never heard of the guy prior to a few weeks ago. I thought Okie State was still being coached by that black coach who seemed pretty good. I would rather go with Petrino, be nice to have an offensive minded coach at LSU for a change. Provided, of course, he can hire a good DC. Some big schools have been sniffing around Petrino, I assume for a reason. He just has the sound of The Next Big Thing in college football coaching. He and Del Rio are my top two choices. After that, Rich Rodriguez.
For anyone that watched the bowl games last night, Herbstreit talked about Les Miles and talked about how, in his opinion, when the time for Michigan to look for a new coach comes, Miles would be there man. I know others here have mentioned that very same thing, and after hearing Herbstreit say it, it should do nothing but convience us that if Miles gets the job here, it probably will only be temporary--until Michigan calls. Then Miles is gone. IMO, it doesn't make much sense to aggressively pursue Miles at this point.
Yep, that caught my attention as well. Carr is about 60 years old and will more than likely to retire at UM. I just wonder when ... 5 more years maybe? I do like what Miles has accomplished at OSU and think he could do a pretty good job here.
My son took about 15 unofficial visits last year including trips to LSU, Texas, Arkansas, TCU, SMU, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Oklahoma State and of all the coaches that we met and came into contact with Les Miles was by far the most impressive. He is in the process of building the big unknown at OSU. They are quietly building some of the nicest facilities in the nation and he is leading the way. His only down side is he will be Michigan's next coach when Carr leaves.
