I go with Spurrier because he is the most aggressive coach in my lifetime of watching college football. But even with all his great teams and players he only won 1 NC. It seems we just have to find a good CEO type of coach who is not too conservative. What will be interesting is if our new coach will be from this list or not.
I'll put a plug in for Richt. He is one of only 6 coaches who have won over 70 games in his first 7 years. But adding his track record as OC at Florida State is what stands out: Between 1990 and 2000, an 11 year span, FSU went 120-15-1 Won 2 national championships, 9 ACC titles in 9 years, and won 8 out of 10 bowl games.
When you take all into consideration: coaching, in-game decisions, recruiting, etc. Mark Richt Pete Carroll Bob Stoops Rick Rodriguez
I would say not him, more Jason White folded in big games those years. Bob has been coaching OU for 9 years been to the NC 3 times. Before him they were giving the tickets away.
Except............he got beat at home by TCU, (1st OOC loss at home in his dynasty), got embarassed against Boise, Colorado, TT, SHOULD NOT have played in the 2 MNC they lost (one was worse than Custer at Little Big Horn). There are others.:geaux:
Stoops has won 4 conference titles. This will be his 6 conference title game. He lost one to KSU. It was the year we played you guys in the Sugar Bowl.
This thread makes a great point! There is no individual out there that is head and tails above the rest. Even these great coaches mentioned have plenty of negative aspects. I wonder if we are wishing for some imaginary dream coach to come to LSU and take us to the promised land. Maybe the past 7 years have been the promised land, and we missed it, hoping for something better. (I think that I just wrote a very profound statement, so would somebody please flame me and put me back in my place, thanks).
