I've been pretty vocal about how terrible Lee has been, and he has been frustrating, but more than that, I am most disappointed in the defense. I had an idea that we'd struggle in pass coverage, but getting blown out and allowing 2 50+ point games? No. Lee has been bad, but he's been adequate enough, mostly because Scott has been LSU's saving grace, to put up enough points to win. The defense, however, has given up way more than they should. The defensive line is a joke, considering all the hype they received from everyone, and the LBs have digressed over the last couple years. The soft zones and the lack of blitzing are infuriating.
I was just making sure... I am a Newbie.... and dont want to tick off people after only a week... Seasons come and go but the heart remembers the wins... thats what I always say
The Democrats watching and doing nothing while my retirement funds dwindle down is infuriating. LSU defensive problems are merely aggravating.
Nice job summing things up. As bad as Lee has looked, I believe he ranks 5th in the SEC in yards and YPG. Not bad for a redshirt frosh... Goes without saying the INTs we can do without. The D getting lit up has been disturbing; not going to hash all that out since there are other threads dedicated to the D. I think we are all guilty of high expectations coming off the NC, and most of us do tend to wear P&G glasses. Any loss or bad performance is disappointing, but let's have some faith in the coaching staff and team. We can still finish 9-3, which is not bad in a "rebuilding" year... :geauxtige
That's a pretty accurate statement. Rahim Alem seems to be the ONLY defensive lineman capable of consistantly getting pressure on the QB and we've slowly dwindled down in production from our LB's over the years. Gosh! Remember when our question marks on defense were the LB's when that group consisted of Cameron Vaughn, EJ Kuale, Hollis and a young Highsmith???? Man! How I LONG for those kinds of "question marks". I don't think I've ever been disappointed with our LB recruits because you figured by the time they were needed, they would have progressed to the point where they would be ready to step in and make plays for us. However, it's obvious that we haven't found another LB in the same category as Ali Highsmith. In fact, that's our most glaring loss at the position. I think Pery Riley and Luke Sanders are almost a "push" in terms of production (although Sanders probably gets the nod because while he wasn't as heralded as Beckwith and Highsmith, Sanders did a LOT of "little things" superbly that might go unnoticed unless they were pointed out). Beckwith's production has been really affected by the loss of Highsmith, IMO. Ali was SO instinctive and SO fast that he created a LOT of havoc at the line and Beckwith was able to take advantage of that. And while Sheppard is doing an ok job, I don't think he's our answer as an every down LB just yet. Similar to Cutrera, Sheppard is probably an above average player that you don't really worry about if he's in the game or pushed into a starting role because of injury, but he's not an impact player that Ali was. If we don't have the over-all LB speed that the trio of Sanders, Beckwith and Highsmith had, we need to get that proto-typical MLB like Kenneth Hollis or Lionel Turner (i.e. 250 lbs of pissed off manchild) capable of demanding a lineman to have to block him rather than a fullback. That would free up the other LB's to either make the play and not be looking to try to hold their own against an opponent 50-60 lbs. heavier.
lol. That guy is always playing judge and jury on this board. Your are correct about him. Face to Face he is a Pus!
:rolleye33: Yes. And I've earned my right to politely tell you that you're being a punk. And I would say it to your face because you'd be drinking my beer and eating my gumbo and you would probably begrudgingly agree, Mr. Toughracingguy guy.
