Yep! My early season critisim goes out the window if they continue to improve and peak in the 2nd half of the season.
correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the 2005 LSU Tiger football team consist of the SAME players that we had last season, MINUS 2 NFL cornerbacks, an NFL DE and another LB that signed a FA deal in spring training??? All of our starters were there last season, and those that weren't, are here now with hardly any experience or simply fall short talent-wise to the player that they were replacing. And last year's team went 9-3 (including bowl loss) So.....HOW is it that we have drawn the conclusion that 2 loses by "this team" is reason for concern and/or our entire staff needs to be fired???
Exactly, it's the same #1 & #3 recruiting classes with another year of CFB maturity. You and cajdav just have lower expectations than me. I expect to make it to Atlanta, anything less would be a failure IMO.
Ben Wilkerson - Starting Center (All-SEC 3 consecutive years?) Lionel Turner- 270 lbs Starting Middle LBer Alley Broussard - Starting RB (Injury) Kirston Pittman - DE Pass Rushing Specialist (Injury) Marcus Spears - DE Corey Webster- CB Travis Daniels - CB Sure doesn't look likethe same team to me. Tell me exactly would happen if Addai went down with an injury? Keep hearing about all the depth we have at every position, but reality is we have 1 very good RB, after that there is a huge dropoff.
Perple, don't cloud people's mind with facts! The FACT is that some guy who's never played football in an office ranked our recruits number 1 & 3 in the nation!!! That means we are entitled to SEC Championships or else Miles is a failure!!!!! :dis:
Just as I understand you more clearly: Do you think last season's 9-3, Capital One Bowl loss, was a failure? If so, then I have no problem with your opinion. I too, expect to make it to Atlanta, but in last year's case, I was disappointed, not up in arms ready to label the season a complete "failure". (New Year's Day Bowl games are hardly "seasonal failures").
Honestly never thought last year was a failure with the loss of Mauck, Clayton, Lavalais...etc. and the fact that Auburn was loaded with a senior team. I did'nt expect Atlanta last year, but I do this year.
What do I expect? Recruiting: I expect LSU to OWN the state of La. and sign at least 14 of the top 20 rated players in the state. I expect us to sign a couple of top rated players from Mississippi, Tx., Fl., Arky, Alabama. We end up with a top 10 rated class every year. Coaching: I expect the team to be well conditioned, organized, and disciplined. I expect them to play schemes suited to the talent and capable of defeating our opposition regularly. Results: I expect us to be in the top 25 teams every year, most of the time in the top 15. I expect us to win the SEC twice a decade, and in those years, finish top 5 in the nation and contend for the national championship. Team: I would like to see good character and sportsmanship. No thugs or criminals. I would like to see a strong work ethic. Send over a bunch of Matt Mauck's and Michael Clayton's.
In other words, losing all of those players last year and losing Saban and most of his staff was not as important as losing Clayton, Mauck, Henderson, etc. So the expectations were raised. OK. If anyone deems a season a failure because we do not make the SEC CG no matter what our record is than they leave themselves hardly any room at all for success and now I see wh yso many are so unhappy. If we went 10-1 and loss to Aubie and did not make the SEC CG I would be very proud of the team and happy with the results.
