Just finished State of Fear by Michael Crichton. While not his best story line, his commentary on global warming, eco-terrorism, and especially politicized science are worth the read. I also liked the way he provided references from science journals throughout the text. It seems as though all the scientific data is counter to what many would have us believe.
I just bought it. I was sitting at the computer this am and some tv preacher (Kennedy?) was really lighting in on it. I laughed and told my wife and maw-n-law, that I had just bought it. Of course, they said "I WOULDN'T READ IT." I said, it is a number one best seller for months. "IT'S A NOVEL" Am I wrong? Is it some kind of anti-bible?
A lot of people are taking it way too literally. People need to understand that it is purely a work of fiction. As for me, I'm currently reading The March Up, by Bing West. It's about the 1st Marine Division's march up to Baghdad during the first days of OIF.
I'm reading Dance of Death by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. These two guys team up for some really excellent reading material. You should give one of their novels a try.
"Da Vinci Code" is a truly awesome novel. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. If anybody happens to think it's historically accurate, then they're a moron. It's fiction, nothing more, nothing less.
Just finished "The Agony and The Ecstasy: A Biographical Novel of Michelangelo" by Irving Stone. If someone had told me I would sit down a read an 800 page tome about marble carving I would have told them they were nuts. But this book was really good. Mike was the man! About to start "Benjamin Franklin: An American Life" by Walter Isaacson.
