My favorite genre is historical fiction - the best of both worlds. Two of the finest I have read are "The Gates of the Alamo" by Stephen Harrigan and "Paradise Alley" by Kevin Baker. The latter is about the Civil War draft riots in NYC and is one of the best books I have ever read. Currently reading "My Cold War" by Tom Piazza.
