The roots of any conflict run deeper than the leaves. We tend to look at things through the here and now lens where as 500 year memories of dishonor and debasement over there are recent to them. America was defeated in Vietnam, Korea, and Afghanistan but we are told we were victorious and have no memory of losing. I hope this clarifies a bit as most prefer playing in the dust instead of digging for truth.
