MM has hit the salient points. Romney is so wise that he insulted a big part of his base. And it is exactly GOP policies that have put half of those deadbeat non tax payers on that list---dropping the mid tax bracket down, increasing EIC, increasing std deduction. A third of those non taxpayers are retired. Those 100k+soldiers overseas don't pay it either. Neither do families of four making $40k/yr. Even considering all this, I still love how the GOP focuses on "federal income" taxes as the framework. Just talk about how the progressive tax is unfair and disregard the regressive payroll tax that all those lazy-ass blue collar workers pay, while mitts effective rate is 0%. Not to mention regressive sales taxes. This election may end up being a popular vote landslide in addition to the obvious electoral one.
Both parties are hoarding cash for the pre-election advertising blitz. Who know how much the Super PACS will throw in. It will be interesting to see who wins the verbal blunder challenge and the Pants-on-Fire lie contest in the next two months.
