Kudos to Chase. I would have done the same thing

Damn, everyone really has it out for scrappy, huh? So he's got a different viewpoint on something, and one that you may not like at that. Big deal. Makes for good conversation.

I think his initial comments were blown way out of proportion.

I don't see how anyone can deny that we are giving Pittman the benefit of the doubt because he plays for LSU. Had this story unfolded about a UT player, we would be very skeptical about his defense of a woman, and not nearly as quick to forgive him. That is a fact. We would believe the part about him kicking the guy when he was down and just chalk it up to the trashy attitude that seems to have consumed that program as of late. We would be talking about how, as a collegiate athlete, you must use better judgement than that in those situations (which I feel is the case regardless).

I don't know exactly what happened, and I don't know who all was there. But I'm willing to bet that Chase was by far one of the largest and strongest men in that bar. So was it really necessary to go that far?

Sigh...the downfall of man will always be a woman.

Let's see, Option A, play the role of judge/jury/executioner and be viewed as dumb......Option B, just stand there, do nothing, and be viewed as a pansy.... or Option C, play the smart percentage by walking the girl out of the bar and leaving the scene, knowing you're a high profile individual.

Tough choice. I sincerely hope they determine that he did not kick the giy while he was down, because honestly, it changes the entire dynamic from a legal standpoint. (battery versus assault with intent)

Well according to todays paper, it says that the guy swung first. If that is the case, then he had every right to defend himself. You guys make it sound like Pittman witnessed a group grope of this girl. From the sounds of it, he didnt even see it. He was going on what the girl said. Therefore, if she had time to walk over and tell him something was wrong, they would have had time to go tell a cop or something. It doesnt sound like he was standing right there witnessing this guy fondle this girl. But, if the guy swung first, Pittman had every right to defend himself. If kicked him when he was down, it's a different story. And the idiot that inferred that I think that Pittman should be kicked off the team is wrong. But, he should be punished. You can't let a bar fight just go and do nothing.

The newspaper did not make that statement.

LSU defensive end Pittman arrested, charged with battery
    By MARK F. BONNER

Chase Pittman, An LSU football player was arrested Thursday morning and charged with second-degree battery after he allegedly punched another man in the face at a university area bar, police spokesman Sgt. Don Kelly said.

Baton Rouge police arrested defensive end Benjamin Chase Pittman, 22, 225 Greenhaven Drive, and booked him into parish prison, Kelly said. He posted a $5,000 bond later that morning.

Pittman, a 6-foot-4, 258-pound junior defensive end, was an all-state player at Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport before signing with the University of Texas. He spent two seasons with the Longhorns, including a redshirt freshman year. He came to LSU last year.

Read the rest of the story

Nothing about kicking anybody. Nothing at all from a responsible reporter.

"When detectives interviewed Pittman, he told them that the altercation occurred after the other man allegedly grabbed the breast of a woman in the bar, Kelly said.

When Pittman approached the man about the incident, the man threw a punch at him, Kelly said Pittman told investigators. That is when Pittman punched the man in the face."

Even the website cited never accused Pittman of kicking the man, only stating the he "denied kicking the victim". Until more information comes along, this is just an internet rumor.

Oh, well, that story sheds a lot of light on the subject. The guy asked for it. What in the hell was he thinking taking a swing at someone that size? What did he expect to happen? Sounds like your run of the mill drunken jackass that got exactly what he deserved. I certainly applaud Chase for having the restraint to not take it further.

We dont know all the details, but if the guy swung first, then decking him is warranted. You have the right to defend yourself. But, this is what Pittman is telling the police. We will hear different versions as it unfolds. We dont know the size of this guy, but im sure Pittman dwarfed him. I'm sure one punch could take this dude out.

LSU players are usually pretty easily recognizable in this town, especially around campus. Seems like every year there's some idiot that wants to make a name for himself by taking a swing at an LSU player. Said idiot usually ends up getting the short end of that deal.

I dont think this guy tried to make a name for himself by swinging at Pittman. If Pitt walked up to confront him about touching this girl, then the guy swung, I doubt that the first thing that crossed his mind was "Hey, this guy plays for LSU, I'm going to swing".

I would think a man could defend a woman's honor without beating someone unconscious. When you are the size Chase Pittman is he is very lucky he did not kill the guy. I wasn't there so I wouldn't know what happened, but women in bars have been know to put there self in situation where they can be defended. If this was a player from another school this board would be crucifying the man. I hope Chase stays on the team, but I do think he could have gotten the girl out of the bar if she was in real danger from any drunks.
