I grew up a Yankees fan and two of my all-time favorite baseball players are Mattingly & Winfield. As long as Scumbrenner is running the show, I will be rooting against whoever plays the Yanks. Watch that ESPN SportsCentury about Scumbrenner and you'll see what I mean. The things he's done to loyal and hardworking Yankee greats is dispicable. All because George wants the control and admiration. From cancelling the practice of giving secretaries flowers, to his demeaning abuse of Yogi, Winfield, etc, etc. He likes to give the little people big time responsibilities and then let them know constantly that he's the reason for their success. All so that everyone will bow down and worship the great Scumbrenner.

P.S. I guarantee anyone with a shred of common sense could've had as much success over the years as Scumbrenner. Look at all the talent they had in the 80s & early 90s with no results. What about threatening Torre and all of the current staff? Scumbrenner would be nothing without Torre. I don't care anymore, it's football season (the new American pastime).

    Yankee Fan

I have been a Yankee fan since former LSU pitcher and punter Clay Parker and former GSU and East Saint John product Gerald Williams were members of the Yankees.

Although they can't admit it, I'm sure the folks at Fox are very disappointed in the outcome of the two LCSs. A Cubs-Sox series might have been the biggest sports story in at least 50 years. Ratings would have been through the roof. Now the only people that care are New Yorkers and former New Yorkers now living in Miami. Oh well...

    Wait 'til next year.

I hate the Yankees and the Marlins. And frankly, I can't think of a WS less interesting to me in recent memory.

We could've had Red Sox-Cubs, man! I'd rather watch paint dry than the Series we're stuck with.

I think what makes this World Series suck is the fact that the Marlins are there not the Yankees. If it was the Yankees and anyone else it would be worth watching

Ditto. I hope they both lose. I might watch game 7 if it makes it that far.

Wow, I fully agree with an Auburn fan! How great is baseball to bring us together?! :D
I can't stand the yankees either. I started following the Red Sox in 75 because of the way Fred Lynn played in the outfield. He dove for everything (just like I did at the time), so I started following him and the Sox. I actually cried after the 78 playoff game.
The 2 championship series were so amazing, and yet the WS will be boring as hell. Baseball season is over, time for football!
I was so disgusted with Boston's choke job last night that I don't believe Chicago and Boston deserve baseball teams. For both teams to choke the way they did is disgusting. They are both losers. The yankees and marlins know how to win, the cubs and sox know how to lose, it's that simple. And all 4 teams do what it takes to get there.

I have read this post 3 times and still can't figure out what you are trying to say. Since you refer to his as "Scumbrenner", I assume you dislike the man. But you say as long as he's running the team you will pull against whomever plays the Yanks. That appears to be a contradiction. As far as "all that talent in the 80s and early 90s with no results", I assume you mean players like Ed Whitson, John Mayberry, Doyle Alexander & Mike Armstrong? Yeah, all sure hall of famers. Torre? A great manager and responsible for the Yankee successes since 96 but, who hired him? Steinbrenner OWNS the team. He's an egomaniacal, demanding boss. But, he wants to win and will not settle for coming in 2nd even if it happens with 2 outs in game 7 of the WS. Boston's owner, GM and manager will take the same basic team (a very good team) to spring training next year and again try to unseat the Yanks who will, thanks to George's wallet, improve themselves through offseason acquisitions. Trust me, the Sox owner has just as much cash as Steinbrenner but George will come out on top again. If you want your secretaries to have flowers and if you want all of your past greats strolling arm in arm around the front offices singing Kumbaya, then don't be a Yankee fan. If you want to be watching your team play in late October, then come over to our side. By the way, I think George was pretty generous to and respectful of Ron Guidry. What's the difference between a Yankee dog and a Fenway Frank? You can't buy Fenway Franks in October!

Sorry SabanFan, didn't mean to sound so harsh. I've never been much of a Yankee hater until the last couple of years. I think the way Yankee fans try to debate against Yankee haters has pushed me further into my hatred. There are many quality people within the organization that are overshadowed by a pompous bully (Steinbrenner). Steinbrenner fired Yogi after about 25 games after promising that he wouldn't evaluate (i.e. fire) any staff until the next off-season. He pays huge salaries but then cuts health insurance for most of the "ordinary" workers such as secretaries within the organization. That's just not right.

I guess I don't begrude Steinbrenner for buying players the way he does. MLB rules allow him to do that. Foreign players go to the highest bidder so naturally the Yanks get 'em all. Not fair but not George's fault. After watching the SportsCentury, I just want bad things to happen to him. Maybe not the right thing to wish upon someone but I can't help it. How bout that story he made up of "beating up two Sox fans in an elevator." That guy is pathetic.
