When anyone (Republican, Demo, white, black or whatever) makes a statesment as dumb as Lott's, they should be demoted, fired or whatever it takes for such stupidity to cease. Ideology is not a flu-germ nor has this man changed ideologies.... Your selective "Christianity" arguement that the Demos/liberals said this, so that makes Lott's statement ok or blaming the press is pathetic ... Anyone who made this kind of statement should be stripped of power. If his state continues to elect him, great. If the Republican party allows him to continue in a leadership role then shame on them. The differrence is the Republicans believe it. And by the way, Daschle should also be fired......
The backlash will be huge! Similar to the fate of the Republican Party in the US House when then minority member Richard Armey called Barney Fag a fag in the early 90's. The Republican Party in the House never recovered from that. Some argue that Lott's comments were directed toward the 50% or so white persons who do not bother to vote in elections. That would be a strange manuever in my opinion. Better to keep plugging away at chipping into the Democrats 99% negro support. It will happen! LOL Actually I think Lott stole some of Fritz Hollings thunder, Ol' Fritz usually makes a similar comment w/in 2 years of his reelection campaign in SC. Always helps pull Ol' Fritz over the top.
I was just about to bemoan the devastation of the Louisiana Log Cabin Republicans! Oh boy, just wait until Green Sox hears about the Orleans bedroom police latest raid on personal liberties. He's never forgiven Jefferson Parish for limiting his movie rental rights in his favorite video stores. When he finds the same infestation has taken place in his beloved Orleans, the fur will fly! Not only were Senator Thomas' rights clearly violated by the homophobic cops, but the Republican Party would be wise to champion this civil rights activist to greatly enlarge their voting support in the next election! This could be just the medicine the Republicans need to offset the devastation caused by Dick Armey and Trent Lott! Senator Jerry Thomas- Republican of the Year!
