I voted no, this is just plain stupid talk after one game.
I can't believe how some LSU fans are acting, as if the sky is falling after 1 loss.

Like others, look at what Pelini's defense has done for us for about 3 years.
It sure is hell beats Saban's defense.
At least with Pelini's you don't lose games by a last second prayer or hail mary and thats more than I can say for Saban's.
I'll take any kind of loss you want to give me other than a last second loss if I had to choose.

If there is any problem at all it is the fact that one person isn't responsible for the defense.
People questioned how that would work out which remains to be seen.
It seems to me that in situations like this is when you run into problems.

Obviously we need to sit and see and consider our youth at certain positions but there are some frightening stats. We are in the bottom half in every major defensive category. But the scary thing is we have only played one team that has a pulse on offense.

    SEC Statistical Rankings:

    Rushing Defense: 7th
    Passing Defense: 9th
    Total Defense: 9th
    Scoring Defense: 10th

    Sacks: 10th
    Pass Defense Efficiency: 9th
    Interceptions: 10th
    3rd Down%: 8th
    Red Zone Defense: 12th

Out of all the defensive stats, our best ranking is 7th! We arent in the top half of any.

Insufficient data so far; the next few games should be quite revealling as those teams are not easy.

I have a feeling Miles has a reasonable idea how damn strong or not the LSU defense / defensive scheme is..........

Any scheme that allows a QB to sit in a pocket and pick LSU apart, while the secondary drops back in these stupid read-and-react soft zones, and while the LBs are always mismatched with speedy skill guys should be scrapped.

I may be the only one to remember, but the second half of the SC game last season was the start of LSU's D falling off. Before then, we were dominating everyone, and then suddenly fell off after that game. Yeah, we stomped OSU, but we struggled pretty badly against every SEC team from there on out, and it's continuing into this season. Some of us need to pull our head out of the sand.

I miss the blitz schemes we had... they haven't played LSU defense in a while.

Scrap them all... after the season.

Wow, this forum is getting rediculously bad.
I never thought I'd see the day when someone would compare Les Miles to Gerry Dinardo.

I also never thought I'd see the day when someone would make last year seem so bad!
Wow, to think we actually won the BCS championship last year.
The sky is falling maybe you should run and hide in the sand but I have one request before you go.
Go look up where our defense was ranked last year and the year before and get back to us.

    Btw, I don't want Saban's defense.
I find it amazing how you love birds forget last second losses to Arkansas and Iowa.
I'm sure you will find a way to spin those next!

Dude, you're high if you think Pelini's version of this defense did not include heavy blitz packages. As a matter of fact, if you recall, it won us the Alabama game. I agree that he sometimes abandoned it for no good reason (4th and 10 against Ark), but it was the No. 1 defense in America last year until we were decimated with injuries. It seem to do ok for us in the BCSNC game, once everyone was healthy, wouldn't you say?

The hole in the Alabama coach's D was the back out of the backfield matched up on a LB. :thumb:

I don't understand your defensiveness. I can agree that our defense started to slip last year, but also that it was talented and experienced enough for us to win. However, if we had played WVU instead of OSU, I would say we would have lost. The scheme is great for traditional offenses, which hardly anybody runs anymore. But now teams know how to exploit the scheme. Its just plain stubborn to believe we will always get enough pressure with the front four. I thought after the Appy St. game we would be blitzing more, but like last year I have seen it less and less.

Does it not frustrate you to see other teams frustrate say, UF, and we can't two years in a row. Everyone else puts pressure up the middle and disrupts the play before it gets started. We "read and react". I don't necessarily want "Saban's defense", but I do envy, even this year watching a defense that confuses people and blitzes. Yeah we lost games on blown coverages, but that never happens with this scheme right? :insane:

For some of us we have seen this trend start last year, where we stuggled in games, quite honestly we shouldn't have. I am proud of Les and Bo, but a more typical scheme last year, and I believe we are undefeated.

For what its worth, I hope you are right! All I want to see is this team and staff be successful. The poll was just to get a feel for the pulse of intelligent fans that are on the board.
