I wouldn't mind a series with Tulane. But, the "revenue split" must reflect economic realities. The two programs should look at what each school brings in for the average game and make a deal accordingly. A 3-for-1 with LSU getting 1/3 of the seats in the Dome (and not just the Terrace seats which Tulane doesn't even sell). We can pay Tulane the "going rate" for an OOC opponents in Tiger Stadium. Unfortunately, Tulane thinks LSU owes them something. In the past, Tulane has insisted on a one-for-one - THAT AIN'T HAPPENING IN OUR COLLECTIVE LIFETIMES. And, despite all their crying, NO DECENT TEAM is giving Tulane a true one-and-one. The Texas series wasn't a true one-and-one for Tulane, AND the only reason they got the game at all was because a former coach felt sorry fo the program and felt he owed something back for Tulane giving him his start.
The only reason Tulane is wanting a game in the dome is so that they fulfill the d-1 attendence requirment. I remember seeing mentioned on here that ULL had a plan like that. It would be in the dome, ULL kept the right to call it a home game and LSU got control of something like 50,000 of the tickets.
Bring back Texas A&M. A rival should be someone who's capable of beating you. Just like Ali-Frazier was. I'd rather go 5-5 against A&M, with the hope of going 10-0 against them, then beat Tulane every year. JMO.
Since the 12 game schedule is most likely here to stay (believe me, cows will grow feathers before college AD's give up the megabucks a 12th game brings) I would, if it were up to me, have this non-conference schedule. Tulane, home-n-home, every year Texas A&M, home-n-home, every year Rotation of ULL, ULM, La. Tech, at home, every three years One solid mid-major team (South Florida, Boise St., Marshall, etc.) at home every year This schedule would preserve two very significant rivalries, solidify our strength of schedule year in and year out (provided the Aggies get it done in the Big 12 and Tulane doesn't suck too terribly), provide for seven home games every year, and probably ensure sellout crowds at every game. This schedule would make so much sense all around. Unfortunately, because it makes so much sense, it won't happen.
The 12 game schedule only happens ever few years when there is an extra saturday between The begining of Aug and the end of Nov. The next time this happens is 2006 or 2008 I think.
The 12th game brings so much TV and attendance revenue that they will find a way to change things permanently if they can.
The 12 game schedual is going away for a few years after this one, but if it comes back permanently I think you will see LSU do a home and home with a big time opponent every year. I think Va Tech could become a rivalry. To have a true rivalry the other school can't have another historic rival. Bama takes Auburn, Ole Piss and MSU cancel out each other. Arkansas still considers TX their big rival. FL has FSU. I think VA TEch could be ours if the 12 game chedual ever becomes permanent.
