I have to agree with you on JR not putting touch on the ball many many times on short throws as well as long. Hopefully he will improve and maybe Flynn just helped him more than JR was capable of helping himself, who knows only time will tell.
dont know if this has already been mentioned, but people keep saying flynn is a better field general, flynn is a better leader. I know under Jamarcus we have won some ugly games, but it takes a good general and a good leader to pull out those ugly wins sometimes. who was at the helm on 4th and 10 in arizona. who was leading the team to victory in OT in tuscaloosa? A good leader wins games under pressure and flynn showed me he can do the job, but until I see him making the winning throws with the game on the line then im not ready to completely hand the reigns over. :geauxtige
... I never said completely write off Flynn, but if you can't prove that Flynn is consistent off of one game you can prove that Russell hasn't had 1 complete game yet against solid competition. Based on what I saw, I would more easily start Flynn over Russell, but if we learned anything from Nick Saban, and I'm paraphrasing, "I couldn't really care less who starts; the #2 is as important as the #1."
I don't think anyone is pushing to sell, sell, sell, but if after a quarter of underperforming your stock suddenly rises with a new corporate strategy, wouldn't you be interested in the change? You can read the whole thread, some people may think Flynn is the only reason, but most of us acknowledge that Flynn wasn't the only difference between the Peach Bowl and the rest of the regular season. What we most disagree on is the factor he played in the change. Taking an extreme stance on one side only addresses the extreme of the other side, which I think extremely limits the validity of your argument.
It's tough to say Flynn is THE answer, and you can't ignore that Russell is hella talented, and just because Miami had a "great defense" statistically, it doesn't mean they had a great defense, AND they hadn't had much film to watch on Flynn. On the other hand, watching the West Virginia v Georgia game really underscores how important a mobile quarterback can be. Granted they play an entirely different scheme from us, but Georgia could not stop their quarterback and it's not like it wasn't expected. Russell was QB through a 10 win season, but I wouldn't say he or even the offense can be credited with the win anymore the the whole team can, including bench warmers and fans. The defense is what won us games this year, they bailed out an offense who couldn't regularly get out of their own way or put together a consistent drive. The offense did enough this season so that the defense could win games.
Very good points. The LSU defense is what kept the team in the close games. The inconsistent or underperforming offense the past season is what gave a lot of the fans an unsettling or unsatisfying feeling in their stomachs, despite all the loaded talent on the team. The "blame" rests on the entire offense, not just on the QB alone. The question is : would the team have responded or performed differently under a different QB like Flynn with the added bonus of mobility. ________ HONDA FREED
I agree JR is a fighter and is also all heart, especially in pressure situations. However, the comment from Whitworth about Flynn's quality of taking command in the huddle cannot be ignored, esp. in the face of big game situation and Miami's touted defense. That tells me Flynn can also take pressure with his other qualities of good reads, nice touch on the football and running ability. He sure is very promising. JR is still a bit raw. ________ Handjob japanese
I will say that I missed JR's arm when Flynn scrambled out of the pocket and tossed a wounded duck usually to the turf. It was effective but not pretty. I'm not trying to rag on Flynn, he did the right thing with his skill set.
Most of those "wounded duck's" were batted down passes. I don't recall any other bad throws from Flynn. He threw a couple away, something I wish Russell did more of, instead of taking the sack.
