i was being sarcastic with my purple jersey comment. It is true, however, that we always wear purple for Homecoming (saban tradition), and usually the second non conference game played at home. We did not this year because Oregon State wanted us to wear the dark jersey (heat thing). We have to execute, thats it. We have a tremendously talented football team that is not putting it all together this year. It unfortunately reminds me a lot of Texas under Mack Brown the last 5 years or so. Hopefully we are not trending that way.
As a somewhat non-biased observer, there's a couple of things I believe ya'll should keep in mind... First, there are some LSU fans that continue to doubt just how good this Troy team is. Blakeney has done a real fine job of building a hardnosed team that plays with sound fundamental technique. LSU is not the 1st team they've given "the fits" to this season. A "W" is a "W" to everyone excepth the gambler. Second, Arky & Bama are severely overmatched by a good defense, and LSU has one of the best. Arky is a banged-up football team that won't fully recover until the offseason. Georgia is mildly overrated. Bama is playing with a ton of heart, but they've got little left in the tank - they may be done. Too many injuries for Shula & Co. to overcome this season. Lastly, leadership is slowly beginning to emerge for LSU. The absence of Mauck and Hunt/Lavalais left a predictable leadership vacuum that has been felt on numerous occasions this season. Nick was in a tough position because it's not easy to find your real leaders when a media-fired QB controversey is distracting the entire team. Looks like it's finally settling out now - and just in time to make a stretch run. LSU plays solidly the rest of the way, IMO.
Yeah, I realized you were kidding, but just wanted to point out that we didn't have a choice in the Oregon State game.
I disagree Dhead. This team's problem is that they don't avoid turnovers. Take away the 4 TOs and Troy doesn't get the easy scores. Figure we take at least one of those drives in for a TD and LSU wins 31-0. Look at the stats. LSU is a good team, just a careless one.
Agreed SabanFan. If what Saban said last night in the post game interview is correct, look at the last 4 games. We have given the ball away 13 times. Can you guess how many turnovers we have taken from the other team over that same time span????? 0, zip, none. this is with our vaunted defensive backfield and defensive line. this is not acceptable in any stage of football..peewee, high school, college, or pro. you will get your ass handed to you eventually doing this (see the Georgia game).
Well we have a bad history when it comes to coming off of bye weeks. Case in point, just look at the one loss we had last year. Also, is it just me or have we not had any turnovers go our way this year?
That's cool, but I feel that good teams take care of those things. Now, I think the potential for being good is here, but I just can't say we are better than average with the squeeker wins that we had against some greatly inferior opposition. Just think what our record could have possibly been if not for some last minute heroics.
