Yes, and I would add that the most exciting stat of the entire game for me was Jordan Jefferson, 3 TDs, 0 Ints. You think the kid is going into the Vandy game ever MORE confident? You bet your sweet booty he is.
Our offensive playcalling was such that our OL could not succeed. UW could stack the box & we'd still run it right up the gut every play. Of course it is going to make our OL (and RB's) look bad. And our DL got pretty consistent penetration, it just wasn't enough with Locker's pocket presence & ability to scramble.
This is just a guess, but I'm sure this was discussed with Jefferson plenty before the game & he understands. I don't want to stress the confidence builder part so much as the part where he recognizes that he doesn't have to do everything himself. I think this is the more important part because Jefferson has a tendency to want every play to be big & he needs to learn that we don't need that to win.
What failure? We won the friggin' game. What better players? I already asked you once, coach. But you don't know, do you? You think Les isn't playing his best players? You recruiting freaks crack me up. It's all about the newest 4-star players to you. "Get those 4-star seniors out of there and put in a true freshman". :dis:
Again, I will say that there were issues - as many have mentioned. Overall though, I think it goes back to playcalling & attitude. We didn't have aggressive playcalling, by design IMO. The lack of aggressive playcalling resulted in the lack of aggressive play. We were out there to get a victory and go home, and that's what we did.
Our unwillingness to try even other safe running plays is what was frustrating. We could have run more sweeps, misdirection plays, even a fake reverse if we were afraid of mishandling the hand-off on the reverse, etc. When we ran the pitch to Williams it worked well. Almost anything other than a tailback run over the guard would have been nice. I think we will miss Big Herm's push this season. The funny thing is that when the straight ahead running was working early in the game we stopped doing it when we were down by their goal and had to settle for a field goal.
And do you think the coaches were not aware of this? It was incredibly obvious to me that we had no intention of scoring many points. I haven't completely figured out why (another theory could be to put pressure on our defense), but we definitely could've scored way more if we had wanted.
that might be the craziest thing ive ever read. outside of anything blackjack ever posted, that is. on this long list of theories...where would washington playing relatively well fall?
