I keep seeing this comment but you have to understand that the play calling is a direct result of the inexperience/ineffectiveness of the QBs. It's cause and effect. Following this offense will take patience. The coaches have it but very few fans seem to.

Edit: Re-reading your post, I think you are saying the same thing. :thumb:

SabanFan is correct. I actually think Jimbo called a good game. It was execution and youth and inexperience that showed.

The youngsters did well at Auburn in the biggest game of the year for Auburn.

Don't forget, as National Champs we had big targets on us this year.
I have total confidence in Saban and the rest.

Frustrating? Of course! I see this more as a rebuilding year. Last years success just spoiled the hell out of some of us. Myself included.

i keep seeing how we cant win with randall in.. funny.. LSU was winning wiith randall in.. we lost with russell in.. running the qb draw and bootlegs isnt glamorous, but it keeps the ball rollin', with wins games.

Auburn would have stopped that bootleg and the draws that Randall was doing. They would have then taken away the TE. Russell brings a lot more to the table. I am a big fan of Randall, but a blind man can see what Russell brings to the table. He just needs to get his timing down and work on his
    "touch" passes. :geaux:

Agreed if we are going to have a tough time this year lets do it with a kid that has great potential. When it is all said and done this kid will be a top 5 draft pick. He is very similiar to Culpepper to me.

I don't think the QB situation is as cut and dry as we all may think. I've said before that I like Russell more than Randell, but feel more confident with Randell under center. Just from reading posts, it seems when Randell makes mistakes they are all his fault. However, when Russell makes mistakes then everyone else is to blame.

I don't know why Russell played the entire 4th qtr, maybe the coaching staff has more confidence in his throwing or Randell could have been injuried (considering he never came back into the game after that huge hit he took on the sack). But, Russell did have control of the O during the entire 4th qtr and we were not able to get it done. Before he throw the INT, he threw into triple coverage and the ball was almost intercepted. Randell is not perfect either, I just feel he gets **** on for every single thing that happens. While Russell is given some room for error, usually with others getting blamed (either Fisher's playcalling, or young WRs).

I still don't know who should start for the Tigers, I'm sure Saban and Fisher have a good idea since they see these guys in practice everyday and know exactly what they can do and how well they know the playbook. If it were me, I'd start Randell and give Russell a decent amount of playing time. I still don't think either QB has stood out as being better. Russell has all the raw talent in the world, even still I haven't seen where he is much better than Randell. In our two BCS conference games, neither stood out. Against the one weak team, Russell and Randell played well.

That said, if Russell is the starter I don't think the season will be wasted. I feel the LSU program is deeper than just one player. We just need a good game manager who will control himself from forcing the ball into coverage. I feel Russell could be a starter, I'm just not ready to throw Randell away just yet. He did lead us down the field and threw a TD pass.

Just to set the record straight Florida was 8-5 last year.

I agree about going with the freshman QB though. He is only going to get better with more experience, and it will pay added dividends next year.

But you all need to buck up, the year is not over. For the last few seasons both teams in the SECCG have had at least 1 conference loss. Quit whinning over a tough close loss to Auburn and look forward to next week! We're counting on you to beat the Dawgs and Gators :thumb:

well said and that's a huge reason why the coaches have started Randall thus far. People see JR's potential...the coaches see his lack of focus in practice or his lack of grasping the offense in practice or his inability to lead the team or maybe all of the above, who really knows. Then gametime comes and they see flashes of brilliance mixed in with very bad decision making. So they are torn I suppose. I think they want to hand over the reigns to this kid but they know once they do, it will be no turning back. After seeing MR in AU on that drive, Im sure their decision has gotten even harder.

However, they do know that in order to beat UF and other good offensive teams they will have to throw the ball down the field effectively. JR gives you many more options in this type of attack plus it allows us to get our young stud receivers more involved and get them their much needed experiece. They knew they could beat AU in a low scoring battle but down the road this team has to put points on the board. The coaches are much smarter than us, its just not as simple of a decision as we think. They are trying to mold this team slowly and effectively...not just one game in the future.

I'm sure all you guys have read the same articles that I have . . . and today I read an article where they were talking about QB development. The article (which I believe was at collegesportsnew.com) said that the development of the QB can be seen from year to year. That in year two the game is slowed down and that the QB finally becomes more comfortable running the O . . . at least more so than in year 1.

I'm not a fan of the two QB system, but for LSU this year it just might be the best way to get results and develop Russell. The last thing I want to see if Russell given all the pressure and responsiblity of having to start, possibly ruining him for the future. I'm sure it doesn't take much to ruin a freshman QB's confidence, and that might be why Russell is not starting.

I know there are other fans out there like me, who could live with either QB starting. We really do just need to manage games, the QB doesn't need to an all star in order for LSU to win games. I would like to see whoever is starting, getting a chance to run the O until he is no longer effective. That was my only complaint from the game. Randell came out too soon, and the O never really got back on track (at least the timing was off for the rest of the game). So, if either QB is named the starter I don't think we are wasting the season.
