What is the word about the staff he will hire?
I would like to see some continuity in the LSU staff such as OC, WR coach, DC.
Jimbo has been so loyal to LSU passing up head coaching jobs and I would like to see him stay. Williams has done a good job with the receivers and we need to keep some personnel at Defense.

I do like the offense line background of Miles. That will be good for pass protection and running. If our defense program doesn't suffer that will be good for us. Just like the defense greatly improved under Saban, the offensive line will improve with Miles, hopefully.

    OK

Les Miles is the greatest hire ever, heaven forbid that anyone think that maybe they did not do a complete search or disagree with the choice.

The thread asked "Was Les Miles coming to LSU a good idea? true fans respond!!!!!" if you only wanted agreements you should have said "Lets all cheer for the greatest hire LSU has ever made". Bottom line is I think it was a bad hire and will continue to think so until I am proven wrong.

The same theory that was used to hire past coaches was used here, that if they did marginally well with a lesser school they will be gang busters with LSU. Well, I do not think that is always the case, but sorry you guys do not want anyone to disagree with anything that happens in Baton Rouge, and don't you think that if this was one of the premier jobs in the country coaches would have been lining up for it. The fact that they were turning the opportunity down before even interviewing says that there is something that they did not like going on. Just something to think about.

Well, since Mike Gundy is the new head coach at OSU, Miles will need an OC. Jimbo would appear to be the top choice to fill that.

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that Muschamp isn't the DC. If you were Bill Clay, and had been bashed for your defenses, then of course you would jump at the opportunity to coach a team with a defense the likes that we've had here for the past 3 seasons. Clay's going to look to put another accolodate in his long coaching career. If he falls, then I think Miles needs to act swiftly because judging by everyone's impressions of Clay, it won't take much for LSU fans to turn on Miles even more should he have trouble parting ways with the elder coach.

he offered jumbo and willard lesser positions as a token and of course, each declined.

for the record, I am happy with the hire...yet seems Spurrier woulda been the coach if Saban left sooner. Very probable it seems.

so to say we cannot hire names like spurrier or tedford now is wrong. Spurrier went to SC. cmon.

LSU is a top 10 program and had hundreds of candidates yet got who they thought was best. we will see.

    nice going les with clay.

    Right. No guarantees.

The folks who are certain that this is a great hire would probably agree that it is possible that Coach Miles will not be successful at LSU. I don't think that any serious observer would say that Coach Miles is a sure bet to win a couple of SECCs and a MNC in the next five years.

So, we all agree that, to differing degrees perhaps, this hire is a gamble. Any hire is a gamble to some extent.

I had and still have some misgivings about this hire. I wish I could be convinced somehow that the Search Process was the best possible. Unfortunately, I can't do that, because the notion that the Board of Supervisors interfered in some adverse way just won't go away. Of course, I don't know the truth, so all I can do is agree with those who say "Let's support Coach Miles and move on."
