This is a weak argument. Mall City as it's referred to, the area directly behind the former Bon Marche Mall, is much worse than any area around the Perkins Road Walmart. It's one of the worst areas in BTR. That area, combined with the fact that it was the old mall when Cortana opened is what turned that mall ghetto. Independence Park, which is further away than you are admitting, has nothing to do with it.
The Perkins Road Walmart isn't truly ghetto, but I'll admit it's pretty dirty and it does sustain some questionable clientelle. That being said, it's really not that bad. I've stopped there plenty of times in my life, and have never had any problems. I did have to call 911 once in the parking lot, but that was because as I was getting out of my car, a lady next to me started screaming because her little girl had stopped breathing. As far as the many cops that are always there as someone stated, I've only seen one cop there at a time, and that's because they hire city cops for security. The cop that got shot was by a seriously messed up guy that had just gotten out of prison, and he was shot with her own gun. The guy who shot her was trying to steal a desposable camera and they caught him. The cop went to arrest him, he struggled with her and got her gun, and started to leave, then turned around walked back, and shot her in the face. A good friend is a city cop so I got the play by play. The guy was messed up, but it had nothing to do with that Walmart. If you use that logic, then there are plenty of places you should avoid in BTR. How about the TCBY yogurt store in the Bocage shopping center on Jefferson? It was held up a few years ago. What about the Cracker Barrel gas station on Bluebonnet right by the Interstate? It was held up a few months after it was opened, and it's nowhere near a ghetto.
I don't even know why I'm writing all this. This is a pretty ridiculous thread, as far as arguing over the safety of a Walmart. I just live in the Southdowns area, and I go to that Walmart regularly, and I've never had any problems at all. I can understand a single chick not wanting to go there at night. I wouldn't recommend that either, but for guys to fear going to the Walmart on Perkins is just kinda silly.
Besides, this is all pointless, because the Perkins Rd. Walmart will close when the new super Walmart on College opens. I don't know the exact date, but it's any day now. So all of you who need to make a Walmart run at night won't have to drive to Seigen Lane to avoid the Perkins Road boogiemen.
