    I couldn't agree more

I agree with everything you just said. I also want to remind those who think (like Pete Carroll does) that it was wrong that he had to stay up late to see who won the Boise State-Hawaii game to see whether his team made the NCG that the Boise State-Hawaii game wouldn't have had a bit of relevance IF USC had played some stronger opponents earlier--if some of the great Pac 10 teams had been so strong that going into the last weekend of the season it was obvious that the Pac 10 was a conference which had quality teams in it which were equal to or better than the SEC. Actually, as the season unfolded, the Pac 10 was unmasked as a better version of a "sorority pillow fight" than most of LSU's opponents--and I include La. Tech as a team which probably equalled some of the Pac 10. Pete Carroll and all the rest of those who focus on the Boise State-Hawaii game are trying to draw attention away from the fact that USC lost to a shitty Cal team early on and then played weak teams. Some of it is a matter of luck--the Pac 10 is weak and the SEC strong this year. But that's the case EVERY year for every NC--some conference somewhere is going to be a disadvantage for its best team. Them's the breaks.

I am over fifty years old now and I have learned that whenever someone is acting in a manner which doesn't follow the facts (like Pete Carroll and Trev Alberts, etc.) there is some piece of the puzzle you don't know, and it usually has to do with some business deal. I've heard that Trev Alberts was not thought of well at ESPN last year and they told him that he had to get more attention focused on himself if he was going to keep his job. Well, he did it. Now I'm not sure that's why he's doing this absurd LSU-bashing--Buddy Songy says there is some bad taste in his mouth from an incident in the French Quarter the last time Nebraska was in the Sugar Bowl, so maybe it isn't his boss who caused him to be such an ass. As for Pete Carroll, maybe he has an incentive in his contract that he's hoping to get if he can somehow wiggle into the NC game. Whatever--you can BOOK it that there's more than pride or bias here. THERE'S MONEY.

I really can't pass up this opportunity. Its a shame that ESPN doesn't sponsor a message board. Anyway - here is the text of my JSU nomination:

PETE CARROLL. Hey Pete: Have some class! By the sounds of you, the rose bowl was played last night. We're all sorry that the inherent fallacy of the HUMAN POLLS has been exposed in such a dramatic way, causing a nationwide, media-sponsored, pity-party for your team. "The BCS is the system we have and the system we have to abide by". That was the collective voice of USC BEFORE it was jumped in the computers. My what a different tune we sing now.

Honorable Mention: TREV ALBERTS. Far and away the most irrational talking head on the airwaves today. Rose bowl is the "de-facto" national championship game? Trev, if you think the Sugar is for not the championship game, HOW CAN YOU THINK THE ROSE IS? Is the Rose bowl #1 vs. #2? NO, ITS NOT, PERIOD, END OF STORY. Using your logic, the rational conclusion is that THERE WILL BE NO "TRUE" CHAMPIONSHIP GAME THIS YEAR. If you want one, FIX THE PROBLEM OF THE HUMAN POLLS. Could you please at least TRY to make an ATTEMPT be a journalist? You are truly a disgrace to your industry. Question to ESPN: Why do you enable this?

Absolutely, positively, 100% without-a-doubt. And you know what, its working. How many of us tune in to watch the next nugget of bullshit coming out of his mouth?

    Plenty.

Does ESPN care that this guy is one of the most irrational, illogical, self-contradictory, absurd joke of a broadcaster? Nope. Just as long as we keep watching the commercials after he talks.

I'm no marketing professional, but I did stay at a holiday inn express last night.

    :D

No disrepect rmc, but I get tired of hearing that. Strength of schedule was determined over an entire season not just one game. Sure, it was so close that it came down to that game but if Florida, Alabama, La Tech, etc had taken care of business the week before then Boise ST/Hawaii may have been a moot point. Every game this year involving our opponents could have changed the BCS so lets not simplify the situation so much that it appears USC got royally screwed simply because Hawaii lost one game. Fact is, over a 13-game season LSU had a harder road to tow and deserves its spot in the Sugar Bowl.

To add to Die Hards point, had Fla State not had the miracle comeback against Fla, all other issues would have been moot and we would have been WAY ahead in the BCS.
Our SOS would have been better because of Fla's win, we could avenge our one loss in the SEC Championship, AND we keep the quality win points against Ga.
