I for one am very pleased with what happened today. We didn't execute very well offensively, but our defense and special teams picked us up. The sign of a very good football team is that they sometimes win even if they do not play their best game. That's what happened today. Ole Miss was fired up and had everything to gain. We did just enough to win on offense. The defense...somewhere ole Cholly Mac is looking down and smiling.

    GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!!!:eek:ldskule:

I bet Nick wasn't very pleased about the offense being sluggish,
    or the penalties....................

What do you people say about that????

Do you think Nick was pleased with the offensive side of the ball?

My two cents worth: if OSU can go as many games as they did and pull it off with close victorys over ranked teams, then i think that LSU can have two games (Georgia and Ole Miss) that go to the wire. Remember, they took out margin of victory, so now that helped us today rather then hurts us like it has the blowouts in the other games.

You can look at it as if the glass is half full or half empty. The offense played an absolutely horrible game, yet we still came out and beat an under ranked number 15 team. How many other teams in the country would be able to pull that feat off?

Or another way to look at it is LSU actually did itself a huge favor Saturday by keeping the score so tight. Since LSU is ranked number 3 in both polls, behind OU and USC, a huge margin of victory would not have moved LSU up in either poll and the BCS doesn’t even factor in margin of victory. While, on the other hand, a low margin of victory is likely to stop Ole Miss from dropping so much in the polls, thus helping to enhance LSU in the strength of schedule category and, hence, also helping to boost their SOS.

So you see, it wasn’t that LSU played so badly after all Saturday on offense, rather instead those three Matt Mauck interceptions were all part of LSU’s offensive game plan for this week’s game and all in line with Nick Saban’s overall strategy to win a trip to the Sugar Bowl and an opportunity to go heads up with OU for the National Championship title. Yeah, and if you believe any of that, there’s a bridge in Brooklyn that's for sale that I’d like to sell you!

That's an open and fair minded assessment of OSU/USC/LSU that's is indicative of IMPARTIALITY & EQUALITY AMONG THE 3. BRAVO. Go to the back of the class. The problem "PERCEPTION", and this affects the polls and lastly, the rankings.

    Three comments:

    1. LSU is NOT College Football's DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMP.
OSU deserved to be #2 in the BCS and ahead of all the one-loss teams ... until they were beaten ... and they were. Tell me you wouldn't think so if LSU were in the exact same position as OSU. Anyway ... it is a moot point now as they lost their BCS #2 rank.

    2. LSU hasn't "earned" their way to the Sugar ... a powerful media "PERCEPTION" that we have fought all year long. The word "FLUKE" was used to describe 2001 SEC Championship, especially after the Arkansas FLUKE ... ironic, lol ... last year. Hell, Ole Pi$$ even beat the hell outta us in 2001.

This is the last year of this crap for LSU. We are a Powerhouse.
Awesome recruiting classes and Championships have cemented LSU as the SEC's Best Team ... amongst our own, not on the National scale yet ... again "Perceptions". This year, LSU cements its reputation as the best in the SEC on a national scale. How will we know we've arrived? We'll whip Arkansas, the SEC East Champ, our BCS opponent, and Preseason rankings will have LSU in the Top 5 next summer ... that's when EVERYONE will know.

The National Media would have known last night, had LSU's offense played like they did in any contest since Florida. Nah, we'll get that one last slap in the face ... albeit undeserved.

    3. Who deserves to be #2 and play for a Nat'l. Championship? USC or LSU? You defended LSU for two games "played to the wire". I know ... that LSU could beat both USC and OKLA with the best damned defense in College FB. Unfortunately, public opinion will settle this matter ... public opinion will affect the AP/ESPN polls. The East and West Coast Polulation Centers (75%+ of America's population) will favor USC as the #2 team in a runaway.

What is the criteria for selection that they will justify as the means to their end?

A simple beauty contest ... favoritism at its' ugliest ...
65 AP voters will script LSU's fate ...
they deliver their verdict tonight at 7PM.

I don't think Saban rips the O "a new one" because good coaches realize that, in high-stakes situations like this one, that his kids know that they underperformed and do not need or want to be berated by their coach.

Just as Saban shields these guys from overexuberant fans and their expectations, he shields them from overexuberant fans and their overly-emotional expressions of disgust with a "poor" performance.

Saban has said many times that the players run this team. THEY know who did and didn't do what yesterday and will address and rectify things to no small degree internally.

Saban needs to keep a focus on adjusting to some of the things the Rebs did on defense yesterday, things that had a real impact on Mauck's performance yesterday and will, if not addressed and countered, affect his performance this Friday as well.

Arkansas is every bit as "dangerous" as Ole Miss, is coming off what is essentially an off week versus Miss St., and has a very mobile QB in Todd Jones who presents our defense with a challenge not seen yet in the previous 11 LSU games this season.

Forget Ole Miss, fans, and focus on the Hogs. The coaches will take care of their busniess and the players theirs.
