I went to VCU undergrad and follow them closely. Grant is 52-15 in two years there -- they love him and don't want him to leave. Two consecutive regular season CAA titles and one CAA tourney title. VCU is a defense-first team, a lot of full court pressure and I believe led the nation in defending three pointers... I don't remember the exact figures from this year, but they held a bunch of teams under 50-60 points. The CAA is a pretty competitive league (also featuring George Mason, Old Dominion, UNC Wilmington as the other top teams). There are times when VCU has been lulled to sleep and they don't seem to show a lot of urgency in games (case in point last night when UAB went on a 20-2 run at the end of the first half). Essentially, from an offensive standpoint, two players (both guards) carried the load -- Eric Maynor, the CAA player of the year, had the game winning shot against Duke last year, and Jamal Shuler, a nice three-point shooter. Unfortunately, the lack of a good inside presence hurt them, and they relied too much on outside shooting. Would hate to see him leave VCU, but would handle it better if it's for LSU. :geauxtige
I'm going to relate this to football.........In Miles' last game with OSU he got drilled by Ohio State. Did that loss deter you from wanting him? You could say Miles had a couple "lucky" wins over Oklahoma. I mean this could be twisted anyway you want it over Grant. We all know you want Butch....we get it. LSU needs a coach and Butch isn't getting the job.
Anything is better than Brady ball. Hell go and get a high school coach with a losing record, at least it would be trying something. The LSU BB head coaching gig is not one top notch coaches will be fighting over. You are going to get attention from young up and comers or middle of the pack coaches with a track record but are either out of a job or at a dump of a job. Grant may not be up to the challenge, but name a coach out there that is interested and is assured of success at LSU. I'd rather Floyd but I'll support a Grant hire if he is Skips choice and no proven coach shows interest. As far a BP, LSU has to distance itself from Brady ball if it wants butts in the seats period. I hope Butch stays on as an assistant but not as HC.
