    Re: Darn!

$20 that wouldn't be going to my alma mater, a partial tank full of gas, a couple of movie tickets, a good bottle of California white, an SC visor (oops, scratch that one off, I don't have to buy it afterall), dinner for 3 at Tommy's burgers in L.A., a few boxes of Devil Dogs, or a cheap date.

I'm still gonna' have to think on it.

The thing here that REALLY chaps my @ss the utter arrogance of the smarmy Carroll.

First do the thing, then deny it, and then act as if nothing has happened.

    He acts with smug impunity.

    What a poser. :dis:

its funny how the leinart/jarrett loveshack is forgotten. surely, dale the 3rd sat out a few games but cmon. this was just one of many dominos that comes into play. lets not even address the dirty sanchez fiasco.

its becoming more clear that USC is dirtier than the average school and their recruiting success is at least partially a result of it. to what extent its not clear but it is becoming clearer daily.

USC has enough advantages without having to go the extra green mile. Now the question remains does the nzaa have the very integrity it claims to demand. I think we know that answer already.

the bigger question is when does usc eventually force their hand? if not now then possibly never.

You do realize that's what SC's own players have stated. After Rey Maulagala beat another student to a bloody pulp, Rey M stated that, "I own the police." Later, the DA dropped those charges. And, of course, Carroll didn't suspend Rey M because he needed him on the field in a blowout SC victory.

There's been lots and lots of incidents, of rape charges, assault, etc.. leveled towards SC players under Pete Carroll. But, they end up getting swept under the rug.

I'll address the 2 points you brought up. The Leinart/Jarrett love shack as you call it was not forgotten. It came addressed with penalties and with Jarrett paying all the money back via a charity donation. It was clearly a case of the school not knowing and Bob Leinart being unaware of the issue.

Dirty Sanchez? Please. That kid had his name and reputation dragged throught the mud and media in a completely inappropriate manner. He was accused of sexual assault. Before the police conducted any investigation, Sanchez was arrested (physical evidence is almost always required before someone is taken into custody). 5 squad cars, a helicopter, and the news media all showed up to make sure the video hit the 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, and 11 o'clock news. There never was any physical evidence. The girl happened to be Sanchez' former girlfriend and was bitter over their breakup. Her mother called the police to make a report, not the girl. There were at least 3 other people in the apartment when it allegedly took place and none of them, including one of her friends were able to corroborate her story. She got jilted, she got mad, she tried to get even, case closed.

His reputation has been permanently maligned. Even Brent Mushburger brought it up again during the Rose Bowl. Give me a break.

He was guilty of using a fake ID and drinking under age. That never happens with kids in college. :dis:

He has since attended AA and completed community service.

It was not SC's own players, it was one player.....Rey Maualuga who was intoxicated at the time and trying to deal with his father's death from cancer. It's not an excuse, it's just the reality. He had initially thought about playing his college ball closer to home so he could spend more time with his dad before he died but his dad convinced him to go to SC. Rey has felt guilt ever since. He also attended AA meetings and gotten anger management counseling. More importantly he talks to high school kids about the importance of reaching out to. His was a case of counseling over punishment. Interesting description by the way of the party goer being beaten to a bloody pulp. Were you there bitter? It's in the official police report that there was shoving going on, no bloody pulps though. That's pretty much why the charges were dropped because this bloody pulp you speak of didn't constitute enough of a case for the DA to press.

So far Rey has been like an unguided missile on the field. He's fast, strong, and very focused. He does have a tendency to overplay/overcommit however and can get beat. Hardly the ONE player to make or break a game.

Lots and lots of rape charges? Provide names, links, facts, etc. before you attempt to libel any other players. Since when does a charge constitute a crime? There's a reason we have courts bitter. Why don't you ever bring your weak azz smack to the SC board? Because you know you'll get it spanked 10x better then I can do here.

You think it's just SC? Have you nothing to say about utla kicker Medlock? Yea, he drove drunk, got in a wreck, and left his girlfriend sitting injured in the car while he attempted to leave the scene. They found him running down the road far away from the scene. The DA filed no charges for him. He did some counseling and community service but no jail time and sat out practice but no games.

im aware of the "penalties" served but it doesnt address what is obviously a systemic problem. lack of institutional control is obvious at this point with so many occurrences within the last couple of years whether you care to admit it or not.

each case is certainly separate yet the HC is still responsible. collectively it smells much more of a stagnant problem within.

one cant help but wonder if this was happening at a much lower revenue institution the outcry that would follow. it wouldnt be 3 and 4 game suspensions individually per the player involved.

the university itself would be held accountable and thats something thats yet to happen. hopefully the people allowing it to happen, namely pete carroll, will have to accept the responsibility he is being paid to instill.

until that happens, these things will continue to go on while USC is allowed to skate free. Its rather blatant at this point and it does a disservice to what little integrity is left to the sport of college football.

When I said that negative recruiting is a sign of lacking self-confidence in one's own ability or program I was referring to an actual coach or official of a school, not the fans. The fans should not be a part of the recruiting process. Obviously negative recruiting is a reality, but whether or not USC will face sanctions is something that will be on any recruit's mind regardless of whether an opposing coach overplays it or not.

If I was USC, and those recruits were so easily swayed by the specter of potential violations, then I would be happy moving on to another player who was committed to my university regardless of the situation. And I think USC has done that. I'm sure Joe heard the same thing, and that's unfortunate.

However, it does raise questions about SC and Pete Carroll if he in fact called Bush, knowing it was a violation, so that Joe could hear that Reggie had done nothing wrong.

My statement was there was no reason for Joe to invent this speakerphone conversation, which leads me to believe it was/is true. And that negative recruiting sucks.

    That's all. :)
