Excellent! You have correctly identified what the NCAA considers a secondary violation, when the player isn't aware that they are committing an infraction. Two days ago, JM was the favorite son, a respected player, and a welcome member of his community. Does anyone question his character now, after he's made a difficult decision and made his first foray into the media spotlight? How many grown men or women are fully capable of standing in front of the national media and handling themselves the way JM did on Thursday?

Secondary violations, if found to be true, are given small penalties, if that.

Hold on vball. Not jumping on you or anything, but I don't think McKnight is the issue here. As I highlighted below, someone had to tell him it was wrong AFTER he said it happened, and he is now forced to lie and say it never happened. That isn't to say nothing actually happened. It did, it just wasn't McKnight that did anything wrong, knowingly. And another thing, I don't claim to know what specifies a "major infraction", but I would bet that this only adds fuel to the fire. I don't want trouble for USC or any team for that matter, but I can't say I think nothing's gonna happen to them now. There's only so much the NZAA will put up with.

Strictly speaking, I don't know if there is a specific rule about bad-mouthing other colleges. But whether there is or isn't, the practice is unethical, lacks class and should not be condoned or brushed aside as out-dated. The fact that some coaches do it is not a reason for relaxing standards.

SC may own the LA police, but now we'll see if they also own the NCAA too. Of course, ND fans have known about this pattern at SC for awhile. But, when we bring it up, we're accused of being bitter and sore losers. Now that SC has stolen away a highly coveted recruit from LSU, finally other fans are starting to wake up and realize the truth about SC.

They didn't steal him. He was going there anyway.

I think the fact that Pete was alleged to have been the third party on the conference call suggests that at least one person with a USC football administration affiliation was aware that the call took place. Maybe he didn't know it was wrong either.

OMG, bitter. SC owns the police? Can you tell me why then, there were 5 squad cars, a helicopter, and a news camera present when Mark Sanchez was arrested for SUSPICION of sexual assault, charges which were eventually dropped due to lack of evidence and his former girlfriend's admission that it was sour grapes over their ended relationship?

You are bitter and sore losers. You can't seem to accept the fact that you haven't sat on top of the football world for years. You can't accept the fact that you haven't won a bowl game in 9 years. You can't seem to acknowledge that Kim Dunbar was buying your players off for 5 friggin' years but that somehow isn't a lack of institutional control.

SC stole Joe McKnight? Better tell him that. While you're at it, tell that whiner Weiss that his 11th hour phone calls to Chris Gallipo were a waste of time and are well documented. You lost Little at the last minute? Too bad, so sad. Your coach is as full of double standards as they come and that IS a reason to be bitter.
