If the forfeiture of wins from the 2004 season is correct, then I would think they have to. I can't see how you can give up wins for and still keep the championship, but it's the NCAA we're talking about so anything can happen I guess.
NCAA can't take away a National Championship in football because they do not award one for the Bowl Sub Division. The AP/BCS/Coaches Poll would have to take away the championship.
Correct, but the BCS could/should take away their MNC. Well, if this is the punishment that USC gets handed to them, this is more along the lines of what it should be. Quite surprising, I really didn't think that the NCAA would slap this cash cow this hard. To me, this is a happy day if this news becomes official. I wonder what the Heisman committee will do to Reggie. Will they take away his Heisman? I would add that losing 20+ scholarships over a 2 yr period, and losing bowl eligibility for 2 yrs could hurt them for 3-5 yrs after the probation. Petey sure knew what he was doing. I wonder how long Lame Kitten will stick around, there has got to be some sort of out clause in his contract should the program gets biotch slapped and handcuffed. Of course this will also be his excuse for sucking.
The championship game (as are all bowl games) is still governed by NCAA rules. The BCS states that if the NCAA rules a player ineligible for the time frame that includes the bowl game, the BCS assumes the same. Also, that if the NCAA makes a team forfeit games during the season leading to the BCS appearance, the BCS assumes the team would not have been selected for the game. So it all falls back on the NCAA decision as to when a player is ineligible and what games a team has to forfeit.
lame may be stupid, but i would be he has a smart agent. i would think there would be something to compensate for any possible sanctions. if not an out clause, then something to give him the cushion. i am hoping that it is really this much when it becomes official. and if they have to forfeit or vacate the 2004 wins, then how could they keep the nc? i mean i understand if the ncaa cant take it away, but how can you let a team keep it when they effective have an 0'fer season? i dont think that it will effect the heisman. that is nothing but a popularity contest any more anyway. the committee will say the money trail had nothing to do with bush's level of play which got him the award.
What if he had been playing at Arizona or San Jose State instead of USC? The money got him to the USC "dream team".
