Beer combined with your team getting embarrased on National TV might make you do dumb things. I'd give him a pass.
Maybe. Maybe not. Sounds like FUSC angst, to me. Who besides Oklahoma has beaten better opponents at this point in the year as impressively? I could maybe see the argument that OU is #1 and USC is #2. But either way, who else has a claim at this point? One thing is undeniable, though. USC now has an easy road to the big game. Remember how that bit Ohio State two years in a row. I still think Florida, Georgia or LSU have chance to meet them in the big game and spank them.
i think the polsters took OSU down far enough to guarantee they don't make it to the BCS NCG this year. polsters want to see some new meat play this year.
Even if the pollsters only dropped Ohio State down to #7 or #8 or something, I'm 100% sure that when it comes down to the votes later in the season that actually matter for purposes of the BCS equation trying to match #1 with #2, that the pollsters will make sure they vote to make sure Ohio State has no chance at the BCS National Championship game. The game against USC was basically an early-season "national championship" game, and everybody knew it. Ohio St is out. Only chance a Big Ten team has at going to the BCS National Championship game is if someone like Wisconsin or Penn State soundly defeats every unranked team they play from here on out, as well as beating the ranked teams they still have to play... finishing undefeated. And that's just their only chance... which is a slim chance even if one of them gets it done. One thing we should all be happy about regarding the USC/Ohio State game is that one team blew out the other team. If it had gone down to the wire, both teams would still be in contention for the national championship. Fortunately it was a blow-out so we don't have to worry about Ohio St. taking the spot of an SEC team in the national championship game.
Granted, tOSU has played pretty poorly in their last three "big" games... as far as I'm concerned that's their problem... at least they aren't afraid to schedule the USC's and Texas'(when they had Vince Young) of college football. For tOSU, they have more of a mental problem now than they do a physical ability one... and I hope they stay in therapy a few years. One almost gets a drift from these posts that Georgia could skip off to LA tomorrow and beat the living crap out of Southern Cal. That's a tad ballsy, dontchathink, given the SEC's record against the Trojans in this new century. Didn't Arkansas win the West after being totally thrashed by USC? (Oh, that's right, I forgot, Arky has an injured rb that game, so that wasn't really them on the field... I keep forgetting to use the right logic, my bad...) The Big Ten pathetic? Unranked Purdue took highly ranked Oregon to double overtime. PSU put a big time whooping on Oregon State last week. Wisconsin won a big game at Fresno State. In fact, the Mountain West went 4-0 against the PAC 10 this week (TCU beat Stanford; New Mexico beat Arizona; UNLV beat Arizona State; BYU beat UCLA 59-0... didn't Tennessee lose to UCLA?) Wouldn't pathetic be the ACC? The Big East? Or the PAC 9? Oh, I get it, pathetic is everyone else, cuz we all know only the SEC can play the game, right? What is the Big Ten's record against the SEC this century? I'm pretty sure we're about heads up even... but there I go again... forgetting that some bowl games count and others don't... like when Auburn lost to Wisconsin because, as it was posted on here, (1) it wasn't a BCS Bowl and (2) the Auburn players all got drunk the night before and just didn't care... now had they been sober ... whoa Nellie!! Are we suppose to be impressed with Georgia's win over South Carolina or #9 Auburn beating that powerhouse from Starkville, 3-2? I watched both of those games... I can't tell you how many times I just sat there in awe of the prowness, the high level of play being displayed, the wonderment of SEC football.... we are not worthy... But, alas, I ramble on... and this is a forum that has been very nice to me and my occasional rants... now I'm getting a case of the guilts... what have I done... Sorry, that word pathetic bothered me... and should bother anyone who respects the game... the athletes, coaches, who spend hours preparing for a game they love.... and the fans, who watch because they know on any given Saturday...... both the best... and the worst... can happen.
Please read carefully before making comments like this. We have beaten ONE (1) Div-1A opponent, and ONE (1) Div-1AA opponent. And please don't try to argue that App. State and UNT are the same caliber as Virginia and OSU. Yes, UVA sucks, but they are in a BCS conference. And while OSU is vastly overrated, they're still light-years ahead of anyone that we've faced. And if you actually believe that we're playing on the same level as USC or Oklahoma right now, I'd kindly have to ask you to take the blinders off. If we go into Jordan-Hare and beat the Eagles by 3-4 TDs, I might agree with you. But we have a lot of work to do.
I noticed that after I posted. Based upon OSU's performance against Ohio and USC, I'm not sure that's true. I do not, and have never said that. I'm just not ready to crown USC as the uncontroverted best team. There's no point in arguing because they are good and will not be tested.
